Building Environmental Sciences - Staff Scientist

The Omaha, NE office is hiring an experienced staff scientist for our Building Environmental Sciences team. The ideal candidate is passionate about protecting public health and the environment and has the necessary certifications for conducting and managing hazardous building material surveys, including credentials for asbestos, lead-based paint and radon.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:Performs standardized and sometimes complex field tests as directed and/or special inspections as required.Performance of building inspections for asbestos-containing building materials in accordance with AHERA guidelines and state regulations.Perform air monitoring and visual inspections during asbestos abatement projects.Sampling of painted coatings (via paint chip or XRF) in residential, commercial and industrial settings in accordance with state and federal regulations.Calibrate field monitoring equipment such as PID, combustible gas indicator, indoor air quality meters and air sampling pumps.Sampling for noise levels within industrial settings.Sampling suspect microbial growth.Assist with radon measurement surveys and reporting. Performing indoor air quality assessments.Perform report work after field assessments. Follow safety rules, guidelines and standards for all projects. Participate in pre-task planning. Report any safety issues or concerns to management.Be responsible for maintaining quality standards on all projects.Additional Duties and Responsibilities:Physical ability to carry equipment up to 35 pounds, climb ladders, get in and out of basement and attic crawl spaces, etc. Oversee operation and maintenance of instruments including testing instruments, sampling pumps, calibrators, microscopes, etc.Periodic out-of-area travel for projects including some extended stays.Ability to work at State and Governmental facilities. Ability to work at Schools and other educational facilities.Ability to wear a respirator. Ability to pass a background check for Federal and School Facilities.
Requirements:Bachelor’s degree in technical discipline practiced by the Firm including Environmental Health, Industrial Hygiene, Safety, Building Science or Environmental Science with 3 years of related experience Or in lieu of a degree, a minimum of 5 years’ related experience. Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.Preferred Certifications:Asbestos Building Inspector NE, IAAsbestos Management Planner – NE Asbestos Project Designer – NE NIOSH 582 or 582E PCM analysis certified Lead Inspector and Risk Assessor – NE, IA Radon Measurement Specialist Nebraska
