Position Summary
Serves as the Pueblo of Sandia’s Building Inspector on all construction projects to ensure that new construction, alterations, or repairs comply with local and national building codes and ordinances, zoning regulations, and contract specifications.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Enforces the provisions of building codes and has the authority to render interpretations of the codes. Receives applications, reviews plan documents and issues permit for construction and alteration, demolition and moving of buildings and structures. Conducts inspections of the premises for which permits have been issued and enforces compliance with the provisions of the codes. Performs all required inspections and has the authority to accept reports of inspection by approved agencies or individuals. Secures such expert opinion as deemed necessary to report upon unusual technical issues that arise. Keeps official records of applications received, permits and certificates issued, fees collected, reports of inspections, and notices and orders issued. Inspects project for compliance with approved plans and specifications.Additional Responsibilities

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of houses and buildings. Knowledge of building codes. Knowledge of word processing such as Microsoft Office, spreadsheet applications and the ability to learn similar applications such as Microsoft Project. Ability to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems. Ability to communicate, understand and carry out written or oral instructions. Excellent presentation skills. Ability to deal effectively with contractors, staff, and the general public. Ability to work efficiently and accurately in an atmosphere of frequent interruptions. Ability to work odd and unusual hours. Weekends and overtime may be required. Ability to use a word processor, computer terminal and standard office equipment.Education And Experience
Required
High School Diploma, GED Certification or equivalent. Minimum of five (5) years’ experience as a contractor, engineer, architect, or as a superintendent.License/Certifications/Registrations
The following license and/or certification is required prior to employment start date: ICC-B2 Commercial Building Inspector’s Certification. Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted New Mexico Driver’s License..

Job requirements include, in the performance of duties, walking throughout the work area, on various work surfaces throughout internal or external locations.

Stooping
Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires full motion of the lower extremities and back muscles.
Talking
Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.
List Working Conditions Required:
Work is performed indoors and outdoors, with a significant amount of time spent outdoors on project site. Work hours subject to change with overtime work often required. Must be a self-starter and must be able to work long hours under stressful conditions. Subject to hazards which may cause personal bodily harm, smoke, common colds, influenza, dust, odors and elevated noise levels.
