Apply today!Inspect buildings under construction, alteration and/or repair, as assigned, to ensure conformity with approved plans and building codes. Review plans and specifications for proposed construction buildings and building improvements; issue notices of code violations applicable to their license(s); enter results of inspections into the Land Information Management System (LIMS) database, and will prepare reports, worksheets and prepare daily activity reports. Research files and databases and maintain a variety of source background materials for reports.Will provide and maintain an excellent customer service standard in answering questions from the public pertaining to building issues, codes and ordinances and interface positively with peers, co-workers, and other customers across the enterprise.* The north office is located at the BOB Building, Sarasota, Florida.
Work Hours: Monday- Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
About YouMinimum Qualifications:
Building Inspector I:
High School Diploma or its equivalent. Four (4) years of experience in Building (structural) construction trade or related field inspection or plans review. BA degree or courses from an accredited college or university in Civil Engineering, Architecture, Fire Administration, Building Construction/Inspection, or related field may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required experience with at least one-year in field construction.Must have or the ability to obtain within 120 days of hire a provisional license as a Standard Inspector in the building trade. Must possess or be able to obtain a Standard Inspector license in the building trade within 12 months of hire or prior to the expiration of the provisional license not to exceed 24 months from date of hire. Must possess a valid Florida Driver’s License.*All Provisional and/or Standard Licenses must be issued by the State of Florida, Department of Business & Professional Regulation (DBPR).Building Inspector II:
High School Diploma or its equivalent. Minimum three (3) years of experience performing plans reviews and/or inspections. Must have Standard Inspector License in the building trade AND one of the following licenses or certifications: Mechanical Commercial Inspector; Plumbing Commercial Inspector; Electrical Commercial Inspector; 1 or 2 Family Inspector; or Plans Examiner License. Other Certifications include Damage Assessment Certification (from ICC), Fire Safety Inspector I (from the Division of State Fire Marshal). Must possess a valid Florida Driver’s License*All Provisional and/or Standard licenses must be issued by the State of Florida, Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR)Preferred Qualifications:
Building Inspector I:
State of Florida Standard License issued by DBPR as an inspector for Building.Building Inspector II:
Multiple licensures issued by DBPR in various trades.Subject to Passing Substance Screening: This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening. An applicant who fails to pass a required drug screening test shall be disqualified from employment in any class for a period of five (5) years.
E-Work/Hybrid Work: Currently this position is eligible to e-work up to 2 days per week! After you complete your first six months and are contingent on work requirements and other factors, you’ll be eligible for this fantastic benefit.

Building Inspector II: Starting Pay Rate - $26.72 - $33.00
