Roles and Responsibilities
The Building Maintenance Supervisor on our Facilities team will be responsible to Maintain Buildings and Systems supporting site Infrastructure, complete requested actions requested by internal and external customers, manage the work of hourly employees and contracted services. This role will includes direction of unionized hourly trades including but not limited to Carpenters, Electricians, Fitters, Plumbers, Material Handlers, Millwrights, Environmental Waste Processors, Locksmiths, Painters, etc.. Contracted services include Janitorial Services, Refuse, Recycling, etc. You will also be expected to make business critical decisions in a timely manner and meet safety, quality, and delivery metrics within the organization.
The Building Maintenance Supervisor, Facilities – Aerospace Research will:
Direct the activities of an hourly team within the Facilities OrganizationAchieve highest safety levels in the CompanyDevelop, coordinate, lead and execute daily production plansCoordinate consistent and effective workorder transitionAchieve highest levels of internal and external customer serviceDevelop and implement process controlsSupport Operations Manager in the strategic planning of manpower, equipment and other resourcesMentor and motivate team in safety, quality and productivity improvementsCoordinate resources to achieve goals with a timely and cost-effective strategyIdentify, develop and execute a deck of projects to improve existing process quality and lower cost.Work with Projects and Engineering Teams to develop and execute plans to drive step change advancements in completing Operations WorkordersInterface with the Customer for improvement of product quality and to ensure corrective feedback to quality issuesInitiate and project manage capital equipment projects that support Facilities Operations, cost, and cycle improvementsWork with Facilities Operations hourly team to review methods, schedules, and documentation for improvementsImplement operator training plansApply lean methods to equipment and material handling designs to reduce waste throughout the Operations Team FunctionDesign, procure and implement tooling and fixturing to support ergonomic concernsAnalyze and plan staff utilization, space requirements, workflow, and layout of equipment to achieve maximum operational quality and reliabilitySupport site LEAN and EHS initiativesTroubleshoot issues with equipment and processesEmbrace and drive a lean culture, leveraging kaizen processes to drive continuous improvement inclusive of the skills and capabilities of the teamExemplify and champion the GE Purpose and GE Leadership Behaviors – Act with Humility, Lead with Transparency, and Deliver with FocusRequired Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, operations, business, supply chain, or similar technical field with a minimum of 5 years of prior experience in construction, operations, or maintenanceOR Associate Degree in a technical, construction or engineering field with minimum 7 years of experience in mechanical and electrical construction fields, including proven ability to scope, estimate and oversee the construction of projects
OR High School Diploma / GED with a minimum of 10 years of prior experience in construction, operations, or maintenanceExperience communicating effectively, both oral and written, among an hourly workforce in a supply chain or similar environmentFamiliarity with operating in a unionized environment and adhering to a collective bargaining agreementAbility to work autonomously and under pressure, with a sense of urgency, to meet deadlinesAbility and willingness to handle emergencies outside of normal working hoursAbility to build and influence strong networks internally and externally, and work in a fast-paced, highly matrixed environmentMust be willing to work on site at our facility in Niskayuna, New York Must be 18 years or older Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set.
