NON-CERTIFIED ENGINEER: In a safe and efficient manner, determines the sequence required to install, maintain, adjust, modify and perform major overhaul and repair of air conditioning, refrigeration, heating and ventilating systems, such as; absorption heater/chiller, centrifugal chiller, ice makers, walk-in freezer/refrigerator, carbon monoxide monitoring system. Performs calibration of all electrical and pneumatic control components, by interpreting blue prints, manufacturer and LACC specifications written and verbal. Operates, maintains, and makes minor repairs on facility equipment such as; absorption heater/chiller, building automation system, air dryers and domestic hot water heater. Repairs, maintains, troubleshoots and performs preventative maintenance and repairs of equipment such as; walk-in freezer/refrigerator, reach-in freezer/refrigerator, air handler system (exhaust ventilation, return air systems), direct expansion package system, split systems, water treatment of open and closed loop systems, cooling towers, circulating pumps. Conducts routine visual inspection of equipment. Performs preventative maintenance on equipment such as changing oil, air/water filters, system water, cleaning and lubricating and adjusting equipment. Operates and maintains building HVAC, lighting and Fire Life Safety Automation systems. Completes daily work activity reports, sign off of all completed work requests and make all daily log book entries.
Informs the Lead Certified Engineer of necessary parts needed for equipment repairs and status of completed/uncompleted work requests.
CERTIFIED ENGINEER: By obtaining the City of Los Angeles five hundred (500) horsepower steam license and the EPA 608 Universal Certification, an Engineer demonstrates his superior knowledge of certain aspects of the trade. The job duties performed by the Certified Engineer, in a safe and efficient manner, are the same as those performed by the Non-Certified Engineer, as those are set forth in the above section NON-CERTIFIED ENGINEER.
