Building Surveyor

The Role:

Sedgwick Commercial Surveying and Design is part of Sedgwick International. You will be working within a varied team which includes Chartered Building Surveyors, Technicians and RIBA Architects.

Our business has grown considerably over the last few years, with huge opportunities still to be capitalised on in both the insurance and non-insurance markets. To support that growth, we have a fantastic opportunity for a Building Surveyor to join our team. This opportunity would be ideal for candidates based in or around London.

You will be involved in and lead numerous projects to reinstate commercial properties following damage by an insured peril. Projects typically range in value from £50k to £5m. Dependent on the size and complexity of each project you may work alone or lead a small project team working with QS’s, Engineers and Architects.

Participating in a wide range of surveying activities, ranging from technical reporting, defects diagnosis, preparing Schedule of Works, Tender documents, contract administration and project management, you will be able to empathise with clients who may have suffered a loss but then able to turn around professional reporting within tight timescales.  The ability to manage a workload and make reasoned decisions under pressure is a must.

The ideal candidate will be confident in supporting & developing less experienced colleagues, and will have the enthusiasm to promote the skills of the team to both internal and external stakeholders. Whilst Sedgwick provides flexibility, there is an expectation when you're not on-site, that you will spend a significant amount of time in our central London office, undertaking these activities.

You'll be required to work very closely with colleagues in the Loss Adjusting teams in our London region to build relationships. An ability to bring non-insurance clients would be valued. You will have/will be:

MRICS Chartered Building Surveyor or suitably experienced and working towards becoming Chartered.A building-related degreeFull UK driving licence essentialExtensive knowledge of building construction and relevant legislationAble to plan projects to ensure robust control of time, cost and qualityExperience in schedule preparation and contract administration of building projectsHighly responsible and decisive, but also a team playerAble to proactively manage your own caseloadIT literate, particularly with MS Word and ExcelAble to appreciate the importance of delivering outstanding customer service

The ability to arrive on site immediately following a significant building loss and quickly earn the confidence and trust of the insurance policy holder is essential to the success of this role. Composure under pressure, excellent communications skills and empathy are therefore key attributes.
