An employee in this class is responsible for installing, operating, maintaining, and repairing water, plumbing, boilers, and heating systems and mechanical and electrical equipment in state-owned buildings. Employees are responsible for determining work methods and procedures and may supervise one or more tradesmen, laborers, and offenders in these tasks. Work is usually assigned and inspected by a building foreman or Chief Engineer.
This position has contact with incarcerated individuals.
**Minimum Qualifications**
To be qualified for and considered for this position, applicants must meet all of the minimum qualifications listed below. + Valid State of Minnesota Special Engineers Boiler License or higher

**Preferred Qualifications**
+ Experience performing laundry equipment maintenance and repair.
+ Experience working in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) repair and maintenance, pneumatic and digital controls and building automation systems.
+ Experience working with a preventative maintenance plan.
+ Experience performing general maintenance duties for facilities and grounds including, light carpentry, painting, basic vehicle maintenance, and snow removal.
+ Ability to work without direct supervision for long periods of time.
+ Possession of Class C Water Operators License or the ability to get one in the future.
+ Ability to work with outside vendors and contractors to set up and perform required maintenance for the various regulated maintenance and safety systems within the facility.
**Physical Requirements**
The completion of pre-placement physical components may be required for this position. These components may consist of a tuberculosis screening, commercial drivers license (CDL) drug test, and/or respirator clearance. The selected finalist may also be required to review and sign a Physical Demands Analysis (PDA) for this position. **Additional Requirements**
The selection process may include screening the top candidate(s) on their criminal history, predatory offender registration, offender associations and/or other applicable background information in accordance with Department of Corrections’ policy. Top candidate(s) must pass a criminal history check which includes successful completion of all sentencing and/or restitution requirements of law enforcement jurisdictions, including probation.
Employment history/reference checks, including incidents of sexual harassment, will also be conducted on the top candidate(s) in accordance with Department of Corrections’ policy. This may include a review of job performance and discipline records.
New employees will be fingerprinted within the first 30 days of employment.
