Position Summary
The bus driver is responsible for the safe operation of the Rice University buses and for providing excellent transportation and customer service to the Rice community and visitors. The driver must be an ambassador to the Rice community and must be tactful at all times. The driver will provide detailed information to passengers on campus events, parking, building and METRO information as needed. S/he must keep up with all university policies and regulations, state and Federal transportation and traffic rules.
Salary: $18.20 per hour
*Non-Exempt (hourly) positions under FLSA are eligible for overtime.
Required Qualifications
HS Diploma or equivalent Six months related bus driving experience Must possess and maintain a Texas Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License with passenger endorsement with no more than three (3) moving violations or at fault accidents in the past three years and no convictions or deferred dispositions for Driving Under the Influence (DUI) or Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) within the past 10 years. Able to operate electronic equipped vehicles Must possess and maintain a Texas Class A or B Commercial Ability to clean and sweep busesEssential Functions
Transports university community members and guests Follows safety rules and comply with traffic regulations to operate vehicles in a safe and courteous manner Provides embarking and disembarking assistance to passengers as needed Maintains order among passengers during trips to ensure safety Provides detailed information to passengers about campus events, parking, buildings and METRO information as needed Checks the condition of a vehicle’s tires, brakes, windshield wipers, lights, oil, fuel, water, and safety equipment to ensure that everything is in working order Reports any bus malfunctions or needed repairs Maintains knowledge of first-aid procedures Prepares and submits reports that may include the number of passengers or trips, hours worked, mileage, and fuel consumption Performs all other duties as assignedPreferred Qualifications
School bus driving skills and dealing with students, staff and visitors on a regular basis.
