Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Operates DART owned vehicles on prescribed routes as directed. Operates two-way bus radio system in accordance with DART established rules and regulations and the Federal Communication Commission (FCC). Collects/records bus fares in accordance with DART procedures. Answers route questions and announcements from patrons and general public. Provides assistance to patrons as required.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
High school or general education diploma (GED).
Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age in order to obtain a Texas Commercial Driver License (CDL).
Five (5) years’ experience in the operation of a motor vehicle and one (1) year in a customer service environment.
Valid Texas Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A or B to include a passenger endorsement is preferred; However, A Commercial Learners Permit Class A or B is acceptable.
No Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) conviction within the last sixty (60) consecutive months, not more than one (1) DWI on driving record, and not more than three (3) convictions of moving violations on driving record within the last thirty- six (36) months. Must obtain CDL within two (2) weeks or prior to field observation.
Must pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) medical examination prior to hire and periodically as a condition of continued employment. Applicants and employees in these designated safety-sensitive positions are subject to DOT/FTA regulations which include DOT preemployment drug testing and random alcohol and drug testing as a condition of continued employment.
Must pass a technical knowledge test Ability to work variable shifts, irregular hours, and to be available for work on short notice. Independent judgment to make decisions in the absence of guidance from others and to plan and carry out work assignments in situations where the procedures have been established.
Must be able to orally communicate in an effective manner with the public, co-workers, supervisors, and managers to ensure efficient operations; to promote safety; and to respond to emergencies. Must also be able to read and comprehend a variety of work related/required technical manuals, safety rules and regulations.
Ability to take care of the customers’ needs while following company procedures; establishes and maintains effective relationships with customers, as well as fellow employees, and gains their trust and respect. Ability to use prudent judgment and common sense in making quick, safe decisions with minimal supervision and adapt to constantly changing operating environments.
Deals effectively with conflict by maintaining composure, applying focused listening, understanding the customer needs, identifying alternatives and finding a resolution to the customer’s concern. Interpersonal skill to effectively and sensitively communicate with customers, all levels of supervisory and non-supervisory employees, and the public.

Works in an environment where there is exposure to dust, noise, or temperature. May be exposed to unpleasant working conditions to include dust, noise, temperature, weather, petroleum products, and chemicals, assuming incumbent is observing all policies and procedures, safety precautions and regulations, and using all protective clothing and devices provided.
