The Mellon College of Science (MCS) at Carnegie Mellon University is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Business Administrator to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who thrives in a dynamic and challenging work environment. You will play a critical role in overseeing all paid and unpaid appointments within the college, serving as a key liaison between HR and departments to ensure compliance with university policies and accurate record-keeping for faculty, special faculty, staff, and students.
Core Responsibilities will include:
Guide and support department administrators in managing faculty, staff, and student appointments, ensuring flawless execution of processes and policies.
Coordinate special faculty appointments by ensuring accurate documentation, salary reviews, and compliance with university standards.
Collaborate with departments and HR partners to build, post, and maintain accurate appointment records.
Monitor and maintain academic appointments, ensuring timely updates and strict adherence to compliance requirements.
Manage student employment processes, including stipend management, hour verification, and graduate/undergraduate appointments.
Assist with special payments such as summer program stipends, non-qualified scholarships, and faculty summer pay, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
Troubleshoot payroll-related issues, including missing pay, overpayments, employment restrictions, remote work concerns, and off-cycle payments.
Respond to university surveys and audits related to Workday user data, open positions, and other HR information requests.

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance, accounting, or a related field. A combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
At least one year of experience in HR administration, operations, accounting, finance, or a related field.
Proficiency in data management and university HR systems (Workday experience preferred).
