Business Analyst, Information Systems
The Business Analyst, Information Systems is responsible for evaluating business processes, identifying needs, and developing strategies to maximize efficiency and opportunity. The Business Analyst works across business, Information Technology (IT), third party and hosted systems. The Business Analyst interacts with developers, stakeholders, system architects and various subject matter experts to support business projects as prioritized.
The Business Analyst is responsible for providing functional support with focus on the Human Resources division for the University Human Resources Information System (HRIS) and other ancillary systems and applications. The Business Analyst oversees the management of data integrity, provides training, and documents business processes and procedures. The Business Analyst maintains advanced knowledge of University system functionality, analyzes business processes/procedures, and identifies dependencies and implications of change to various functional areas and integration points with other systems. The Business Analyst communicates and coordinates effectively and professionally with subject matter experts and HR leaders to ensure accurate understanding and full user acceptance of system configurations. The Business Analyst will serve as the liaison for capturing and sharing detailed and nuanced information between related business units, technical and non-technical teams. While providing primary direct support to HR, the Business Analyst will fluidly pivot and support other University departments as needed to contribute to the University success across both academic and operational functions. The Business Analyst will work with cross-functional teams and alongside other Business Analysts.
Essential Functions
+ Work with business stakeholders to identify, plan, and implement innovative technology solutions and business process improvements that meet functional area needs and support the Organization’s objectives for recruiting, retaining, and graduating students
+ Provide guidance and hands-on support of the Organization’s application systems and technologies within area of responsibility
+ Oversee the integration of third party and cloud-based service providers
+ Support the institution's technology-based security compliance efforts
+ Evaluate and recommend the use (or removal) of certain technologies based on situations specific to Organization’s business and operations
+ Facilitate business process decisions based on strategic importance, cost, ROI and impact to the business (students, faculty and staff) and central support functions (in operations, finance, HR, etc.)
+ Define scope and objectives of business requirements, including documentation of requirements (i.e. use cases) and translation into system requirement specifications
+ Lead requirements gathering sessions and create process flows and current/future state documentation
+ Evaluate existing business and operational flows and define the “as-is” process models, and then define “to-be” process models for business process re-engineering initiatives
+ Plan and manage the release and delivery cycles for continue improvement initiatives
+ Track and communicate status of continual improvement initiatives
+ Maintain and nurture relationships at all levels of the organization from campus staff to senior leaders
+ Collect and analyze data for potential business expansion
+ Identify specific business opportunities
+ Influence stakeholders to support business projects
+ Test business processes and recommend improvements
+ Create documentation and manuals
+ Other duties as assigned
Essential Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
+ Experience managing and/or delivering IT solutions
+ Strong analytical skills and ability to think outside the box
+ Experience with configuration and support of HRIS and/or ERP systems
+ Detail-oriented
+ Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
+ Ability to frame decisions based on key organizational metrics such as business impact, ROI, etc.
+ Excellent oral and written communication skills
+ Ability to communicate technical items in a manner that allows the most non-technical person to understand
+ Ability to translate business needs into technical requirements
+ Demonstrated ability to lead initiatives within a technical and non-technical setting
+ Demonstrated ability to work with individuals at all levels of the organization
+ Experience acting as the liaison between business and IT staff
+ Experience within the systems development lifecycle
+ Strong project management skills

+ Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and adjust priorities based on institutional need

Qualifications
+ Bachelor's degree
+ Experience with higher education preferred
+ Experience with HRIS systems such as Workday, Dayforce, Oracle, or SAP is preferred
+ 3-5 years of experience as a project manager, consultant and/or business analyst with an information technology background
+ 2+ years’ experience of delivering enterprise information technology solutions
Work Environment/Physical Demands
+ This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets

Hours and Travel
+ Flexible hours required to implement strategy, enterprise initiatives and execute deliverables
+ Must be flexible in coming in early, working late or during non-work hours as needed
+ May require some international travel for enterprise initiatives and team collaboration
The anticipated salary range for Business Analyst, Information Systems is $85,000 to $100,000. The final salary offered may vary and will be determined based on factors such as the job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and education of the successful candidate. This information is provided per NYS local law.
