Description: The primary purpose of this position is to provide strategic support for the work and duties executed by the Division of Research ( DOR ). The Business Assistant must provide important decision-making and action-oriented activities that allow the work of the to be carried out with the utmost efficiency and effectiveness. This position interacts on a daily basis with internal and external constituencies across the university. Some of the work done by this position is confidential and requires maximum discretion. Primary Function of Organizational Unit: The Division of Research ( DOR ) manages N.C. A&T’s research enterprise. DOR provides services to faculty and student researchers, to current and potential research partners, funding agencies, and economic development agencies. Internal job number: 007666 Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in business administration or a related discipline; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. Preferred: High School diploma or equivalency and three years of progressively responsible administrative/office management experience; or graduation with an associate’s degree in Secretarial Science, Business Administration, or a related discipline and one year of progressively responsible administrative/office management experience; or bachelor’s degree, preferably in Business Administration or a related discipline; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. Graduation from a four-year college or university and one year of related experience in Higher Education; or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been attained. • Considerable knowledge of modern office procedures, practices, and equipment • Ability to work with diverse customers internal and external to DORED • Ability to work independently and see projects through to successful completion • Basic accounting experience • Familiarity with processing personnel actions • Ability to exercise judgment and discretion in performing assignments Requires strong organizational skills, an orientation for details, excellent verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills, professional proficiency in Microsoft Office, Microsoft Excel, and the ability to learn department-specific computer systems as needed. Individual must be organized, detailed oriented, able to multitask, have strong communication and customer service skills, work independently but also serve as a productive member of the Division of Research team, and trustworthy to handle sensitive documents and keep information confidential.
