SBA Player/Coach
The SBA Player/Coach is responsible for driving business development in Small Business Administration (SBA) lending while also leading, mentoring, and developing a team of SBA Business Development Officers. The candidate will be expected to meet personal production goals through effective prospecting, COI, and SBA broker development. In addition the candidate will source, onboard, and coach colleagues to desired financials outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Loan Origination & Business Development (Player Role):
• Develop relationships with small business clients, brokers, and referral partners.
• Identify lending opportunities and provide SBA loan products, such as 7(a), Express, and 504 loans.
• Actively manage a pipeline of SBA loan applications, ensuring high-quality service and timely processing.
• Work closely with underwriters and credit officers to structure loans that meet SBA guidelines.
• Ensure compliance with SBA regulations, as well as internal bank policies
Originate $15MM- $20MM in self-sourced SBA volume
2. Leadership & Team Development (Coach Role):
• Mentor and coach a team of SBA BDO officers, helping them achieve their individual production goals.
• Provide guidance in concert with SBA CPM on deal structuring, loan applications, and sales strategies.
• Lead by example, demonstrating best practices in client management, deal negotiations, and problem-solving.
• Assist in recruiting, training, and developing SBA talent
• Conduct regular team meetings and one-on-one coaching sessions to track progress and identify opportunities for improvement.
3. Strategic Planning:
• Work with senior leadership to develop and implement a growth strategy for SBA lending in the region
+ Closely collaborate with risk and credit partners on SBA credit/risk strategy and credit delivery model
• Set team goals in alignment with overall bank objectives and ensure accountability.
• Analyze market trends and competitive data to identify areas for growth and improvement.
• Collaborate with marketing, credit, and operations teams to optimize the SBA loan process.
4. Client Relationship Management:
• Build and maintain strong relationships with key external stakeholders such as CPAs, attorneys, and business owners.
• Provide exceptional customer service to ensure client satisfaction and repeat business.
• Handle complex client inquiries and issues, working to resolve them in a timely and satisfactory manner.
Qualifications:
• Experience:
• 5+ years of experience in SBA lending, with a proven track record of successful loan origination.
• Previous leadership or coaching experience within a financial services environment.
• Knowledge:
• In-depth knowledge of SBA loan programs, underwriting guidelines, and compliance requirements.
• Strong understanding of financial analysis, credit underwriting, and risk assessment.
• Skills:
• Exceptional sales and negotiation skills with a customer-centric mindset.
• Strong leadership, mentoring, and communication abilities.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Education:
• Bachelor’s degree in finance, business, or a related field preferred.
Performance Metrics:
• Personal production goals (loan volume and quality).
• Team production and growth metrics.
• Customer satisfaction and retention rates.
• Compliance with SBA, SOP
