Business Development Director, Defense Systems Manufacturing

The Defense Systems Sector of Leidos is seeing a Business Development Director for Manufacturing that will develop and execute growth strategies to support capabilities within the Manufacturing Segment. 

Leidos Defense Sector manufacturing capabilities include complex precision machining, printed circuit board fabrication and assembly, wire harness fabrication, metal fabrication and welding, Electron Beam Welding, and complex platform integration/assembly.  The Business Development Director will play a key role in developing and securing business opportunities that are both complimentary and additive to existing Leidos manufacturing programs.   

Primary Responsibilities

The candidate will be responsible for developing and securing a pipeline of manufacturing opportunities that align with our manufacturing Defense Sector manufacturing capabilities.   Responsibilities include leveraging existing programs and customers to create on-contract growth, targeting existing customers and programs within our current and adjacent market spaces to build/develop future opportunities, and identifying new customers and business opportunities that utilize our existing capabilities.This individual will be responsible for establishing Bid and Proposal budgets and monitoring proposal spend. The position will include direct leadership of the Manufacturing Estimating teams as well as working closely with Pricing and Contracts organizations to ensure timely submission of proposals.The Business Development Director will collaborate with Manufacturing Senior Leadership and Business Area Senior Leadership on pursuit of opportunities to ensure appropriate alignment of the opportunity with our capabilities and to ensure efficient use of new business funds. This Business Development Director will utilize the Leidos Win Plan process to assist the senior decision makers in Opportunity Interest, Pursue-No Pursue, Bid – No Bid and Bid Approval Reviews.The person in this role will market our manufacturing capabilities to customers through briefings, facility tours, customer visits, and a variety of customer engagement opportunities such as Industry Days, symposiums, and conferences.The person in this role will also develop growth strategies for key manufacturing capabilities including machining and Electron Beam Welding

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a technical or business discipline and at least 15+ years of relevant experience or a Master’s degree with 12+ years of relevant experience10+ years of experience supervising or leading diverse teams or programsDemonstrated leadership experience in a manufacturing environment in an operations, technical, or business development capacity.Proven track record of successful capture and pipeline management across a variety of hardware programs at varying levels of product maturity (R&D, Prototype, LRIP, FRP) and across a diverse customer baseExperience working directly with Department of Defense (DoD) direct customers and prime contractorsExpert level knowledge of USG and customer budgeting cycles, investment vehicles and acquisition processesDemonstrated success building relationships with key government customers and industry partnersDemonstrated working knowledge of the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR)Strong oral and written skills with the ability to use software applications and tools to present ideas, information, and reportsExpertise using a customer relationship management tool to track opportunities and manage pipelineAbility to travel as required: 20% per monthMust have an active Secret Clearance

Preferred Qualifications

Advanced technical degree or MBA preferredExperience with manufacturing of Defense, Space, and Aerospace products and related manufacturing processes is preferredExperience working with Research and Development customers in the DoD (DARPA, NAVSEA, AFRL, DTRA, Army Futures Command, ARL, ONR, etc.)Previous experience in a business development capacity supporting a manufacturing organization with machining, electrical, or welding capabilitiesManagement of a high-mix pipeline of opportunities with low/medium opportunity value, but a cumulative portfolio value of ~$50M annuallyDemonstrated experience with development of capital plans required to capture new manufacturing opportunities, preferably in machining, electrical, or advanced welding applicationsLeadership skills to develop, organize and execute significant capture activities, including building industry teams, assessing win probability, and executing customer call plans to shape acquisitions, to respond and win business with new and existing customersAbility to gain internal support, operate independently with limited supervision and feedback, and establish a solid working relationship with senior management, technical staff, division managers, and peers in the Group and across LeidosOriginal Posting Date:2024-03-13

Pay Range:Pay Range $144,300.00 - $260,850.00
