Business Development Director -- Energy Transition
**Job Overview:** APTIM's Energy Transition team is seeking an experienced **Business Development Director** to lead our growing portfolio of e-mobility, energy efficiency, demand response (DR), distributed energy resource (DERs) and renewable energy programs across the country. The **Business Development Director** position is responsible for business development and growth for our utility business, which includes DSM programs, grid innovation, pilot & innovative programs and resiliency. A key priority within this role, is to continuously scan the market for new opportunities to add or expand offerings related to energy efficiency, pilots, ebikes, heat pumps, heat pump water heaters, EV/chargers, battery storage, demand response, solar or other devices supporting these technologies. The successful candidate will be a strong sales hunter with a track record of successfully landing new business with utilities, state, local and federal clients. Candidate must have experience developing targeting strategies, identifying, and building a pipeline with new prospects, cultivating relationships with decision makers, and closing new business. A proven track record in selling utility and program services across a variety of stakeholders, existing utility contacts across the US and an established client and industry reputation is a must. Our technical experts deliver highly innovative projects and complex client solutions providing the full breadth of energy solutions including energy management, carbon management, smart energy infrastructure, distributed energy resources (DER), and carbon-free mobility solutions. Our consultants proactively collaborate with clients to define and implement strategies and campaigns around key business drivers, with the primary focus of finding and delivering high-impact projects exceeding expectations and meeting the unique needs for our clients. This role will involve direct engagement with utilities (regulated and non-regulated), municipalities, cooperatives, government agencies, and cross-selling established APTIM customers across the enterprise. You will also be working with others who are enthusiastic about clean energy, energy efficiency and making a positive impact on the industry. **Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:** + Develop and maintain long-lasting and meaningful relationships with utility leadership, demand side management and industry experts. Build rapport and trust with clients via relational interactions, offering solutions to complex problems. + Build strategic relationships with industry teaming partners; collaborate to expand existing work and win new opportunities. + Monitor market conditions, innovations, and trends; and competitors' performance, pricing, and sales strategies to maximize competitive stance. + Lead pursuit planning; development of win themes; and preparation of compelling proposals, presentations, and marketing materials. + Grow revenue of utility DSM, grid innovation and resiliency business. + Conduct opportunity and prospective client research. + Lead company capabilities presentations with clients and prospective clients; attend industry events including regional and national trade shows to expand market penetration of APTIM's services. + Participate in industry organizations as a strategic part of client development. + Work with marketing manager in the development of collateral pieces and client submittals, as needed. + Work with existing clients and APTIM operations and project staff to enhance the client relationships and expand business opportunities across existing accounts. + Develop client relationships through face-to-face meetings. + Anticipate and interpret customer needs to identify solutions. + Maintain client contacts and opportunities in the Salesforce and SharePoint systems. + Track goals and produces internal reports, as needed. + Excellent written and oral communication skills are required. + A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. + Travel as necessary to perform duties, up to 50%. + Interpret business issues and adapt work priorities in own area. + Manage budget for own area and allocate resources accordingly. + Commitment to fostering a collaborative work environment within the team and broader organization. + All other duties as assigned. + Ensuring compliance with all APTIM quality and safety policies as well as all OSHA regulations. **Qualifications:** + Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university or equivalent work experience. + 7-10 years' sales experience related to utility energy program management/implementation, utility innovation, grid modernization and resiliency. + Fluent understanding of DSM programs, distributed energy resources, and emerging trends in the industry. + Working knowledge of the policy and regulatory influences on energy efficiency and utility operations. + Must be a self-starter, organized and able to manage competing priorities and tight deadlines. + Proficient in Salesforce and Microsoft Office software. + Excellent verbal and written communication skills. + Willingness to learn new technologies across multiple industries. + Proven experience developing and maintaining relationships with internal colleagues and external stakeholders. + Must be a self-starter, organized and have an ability to manage competing priorities with established deadlines. + Ability to work independently and within a team environment while interact with individuals at all levels of the organization. + Commitment to fostering a collaborative work environment within the team and broader organization. + Proficient in Microsoft Office software -- Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and SharePoint. **Desired/Preferred Qualifications:** + 5+ years' experience in utility DSM program management preferred. + Proven experience developing new program and/or pilot offerings. **Who we are and what we do:** **ADDITIONAL JOB INFORMATION** **ABOUT APTIM** APTIM is committed to accelerating the transition toward a clean and efficient energy economy, building a sustainable future for our communities and natural world, and creating a more inclusive and equitable environment that celebrates the diversity of our communities.
