Pay Range

$132,810 - $170,556 Annually

This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting; pay will not be below any applicable local minimum wage.  An employee’s position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.

Job Description

We're looking for a Business Development Executive – Entrepreneurship. In this new role, you will be responsible for the promotion of the innovation ecosystem at LLNL through activities related to entrepreneurship and technology transition. You will lead the execution of programming related to entrepreneurship and manage activities funded by the DOE and NNSA which enable commercialization of technologies from LLNL. This position is in the Innovation and Partnerships Office (IPO) within the Director’s Office.

This position may offer a hybrid schedule, which includes the flexibility to work from home one or more days per week, after a probationary period. The specifics of the hybrid schedule, including the exact number of days required in the office and virtual work options may vary based on the needs of the team and the organization.

You will

Organize and execute Lab-sponsored and externally-funded entrepreneurial training and experiential programs, including the National Labs Entrepreneurship Academy (NLEA).Curate key LLNL technology portfolios suitable for inclusion in entrepreneurial initiatives in coordination with key LLNL scientists and fellow business development colleagues toward commercialization success.Facilitate and manage participation of LLNL scientists and engineers in Energy I-Corps and other technology commercialization programming funded by the DOE/NNSA.Working with IPO management and staff, manage the logistical aspects of program coordination including initiation, planning, promotion, and execution of virtual and in-person events related to entrepreneurship and innovation at LLNL, including preparing content, promotion, invites, and logistics needed for a successful event.Track and analyze metrics of program success for continuous improvement of curriculum and logistics.Build and maintain strong relationships within the innovation and entrepreneurial ecosystem, including incubators, accelerators, investor and industry partners; and develop partnerships that enhance program offerings (e.g. guest speakers, mentors, etc).Organize and promote IPO activities and LLNL innovators through innovation award recognition programs, award nominations, and dissemination of information to a wide variety of stakeholders.Utilize and leverage broad general scientific knowledge and understanding of scientific terminology and concepts to communicate the impact of innovation and tech transfer both internally and externally.Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.Bachelor’s degree in science or engineering or other related areas, or the equivalent combination of education and industrial experience.Broad experience in organizing/leading or contributing toward programming related to innovation, technology transfer, and entrepreneurship.Proficient in developing and facilitating research and/or business relationships with the private sector as part of a university, national laboratory or other similar research entity’s technology transfer office.Broad experience with technology transfer practices, including fundamental knowledge of how innovation, intellectual property, partnership agreements, and entrepreneurship contribute to the commercialization of early-stage technology.Proficient communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse range of internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications We Desire

Advanced degree in science or engineering or other related areas, or the equivalent combination of education and industrial experience.Experience working with U.S. national laboratories.Experience in the formation and operation of technology-based startup companies. Additional Information

Security Clearance

This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance.  If you are selected, we will initiate a Federal background investigation to determine if you meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. Also, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing.  Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship. 

Pre-Employment Drug Test

External applicant(s) selected for this position must pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test. This includes testing for use of marijuana as Federal Law applies to us as a Federal Contractor.

Per the Department of Energy (DOE), Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory must meet certain restrictions with the use and/or possession of mobile devices in Limited Areas. Depending on your job duties, you may be required to work in a Limited Area where you are not permitted to have a personal and/or laboratory mobile device in your possession.  This includes, but not limited to cell phones, tablets, fitness devices, wireless headphones, and other Bluetooth/wireless enabled devices.  

If you use a medical device, which pairs with a mobile device, you must still follow the rules concerning the mobile device in individual sections within Limited Areas.  Sensitive Compartmented Information Facilities require separate approval. Hearing aids without wireless capabilities or wireless that has been disabled are allowed in Limited Areas, Secure Space and Transit/Buffer Space within buildings.
