Business Development Manager, Biogas

Role Overview:
The Business Development Manager will play a crucial role in establishing and growing our biogas business in Spain. This position will be responsible for identifying and securing new business opportunities, managing mergers and acquisitions (if the case may be), developing partnerships, and developing/leading Greenfield and Brownfield projects. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the Spanish renewable energy market, particularly in biogas or related sectors, and possess strong strategic, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.

Key Responsibilities:

Conduct in-depth market research to identify opportunities for growth in the Spanish biogas sector. Develop and implement a business development strategy to achieve the company's goal of 0.5 TWh of installed capacity by 2030. Monitor market trends, competitor activities, and regulatory changes to adjust strategies accordingly. Identify and evaluate potential M&A targets within the Spanish biogas market.  Lead due diligence, negotiations and integration processes for acquisitions as well as all internal governance steps.  Collaborate with the finance, legal, engineering, technical, HSE,… teams to ensure smooth execution of transactions. Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including agricultural cooperatives, waste management companies, regional governments, and regulatory bodies. Develop joint ventures and strategic alliances that enhance the company’s market position and access to feedstock and digestate offtake. Negotiate and secure long-term contracts for feedstock supply and other critical resources. Oversee the identification and development of Greenfield and Brownfield projects in high-potential regions. Work closely with RGE and all relevant stakeholders to assess project feasibility, secure permits, and ensure timely execution. Manage relationships with local communities and other stakeholders to ensure project acceptance and success. Collaborate with the finance team to develop and manage project budgets, financial models, and investment plans. Identify and mitigate risks associated with market entry, project execution, and regulatory compliance. Provide regular updates to the General Manager and senior leadership on business development activities, progress against targets, and market insights. Represent the company at industry events, conferences, and meetings with key stakeholders.

Qualifications:

Education: Master’s degree in Business, Engineering, Environmental Sciences, or a related field. An MBA or advanced degree is preferred. Experience: Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in business development, with a proven track record in the renewable energy sector (clear plus if in the biogas, biomethane, or waste-to-energy). Demonstrated experience in leading greenfield projects, M&A activities, developing partnerships, and managing projects in Spain. Possess a strong knowledge and understanding of the Spanish energy market (and biogas in particular), including regulatory, financial, and operational aspects. Skills: Strategic thinker with the ability to identify and capitalize on market opportunities. Excellent negotiation, communication, and relationship-building skills. Strong project management capabilities, with the ability to oversee multiple projects simultaneously. Fluency in Spanish and English is required; French languages is a plus. Entrepreneurial mindset with a proactive approach to driving business growth. Strong leadership qualities with the ability to work collaboratively in a matrix organization. Ability to navigate complex regulatory environments and work effectively with government bodies.
