Business Development Manager

SUMMARY OF POSITION PURPOSE 

Under the supervision of the VP & Chief Strategy Officer (CSO) and in collaboration with the Business Development Council, the Business Development Manager coordinates the priorities and workload of the Business Development team, manages departmental functions, and plays a critical role in building strong, professional, long-term relationships among physicians and their teams, outpatient healthcare providers, EMS, employers, and other stakeholders who conduct business with AnMed.   

Through all interactions, the Manager serves as a promoter of AnMed as the preferred healthcare provider in the market, an educator of AnMed’s portfolio of clinical capabilities and services, a facilitator to resolve issues, a connector to meet referral and other clinical needs, and communicator to share important news and information between parties.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

Collaborate with AnMed Business Development Council to prioritize opportunities for interacting with our stakeholders and promoting AnMed’s clinical services. 

Serves as the recognized manager of the Business Development team to coordinate priorities and allocate workload among team members, but it is also expected to function in a liaison capacity whereby s/he conducts routine face-to-face visits with stakeholders, staffs sponsored events, and conducts other duties of a liaison. 

Manages the day-to-day personnel issues and operational duties of the Department, including approving payroll and PTO requests, managing the departmental budget within acceptable limits, supporting the CSO and serving as senior staff to the Business Development Council.    

Serves as an example to the Business Development liaisons as a self-starter and pace setter by managing the day-to-day of the department while simultaneously performing liaison duties. 

Establishes, develops, and maintains effective and engaged relationships with physicians and their teams, outpatient healthcare providers, EMS, employers, and other stakeholders through routine face-to-face meetings, spending approximately 60-70% of time in the field. 

Promote.  Help position AnMed as the preferred healthcare provider in the market by delivering positive messages of AnMed’s work in interactions with stakeholders. 

Educate.  Inform all stakeholders, particularly physicians, of the portfolio of clinical services and capabilities AnMed has to serve the community.  (Requires self-starter and curious qualities to become educated and updated on the myriad and complex set of services). 

Facilitate.  Act as a broker between stakeholders to connect the appropriate parties to communicate and resolve issues.  Takes ownership for the resolution process, coordinates with appropriate operational leaders, escalates as appropriate, and communicates back to stakeholders on a timely basis to close the loop. 

Ensures obstacles to business growth and retention are identified and minimized/eliminated using sound ethical judgment that stays within legal/regulatory boundaries. 

Communicate.  Support two-way communication between the physicians and other stakeholders, including the health system utilizing the most efficient, appropriate and effective communication tools that are customized to accommodate the preferences of individuals. 

Acts as the primary contact for communication needs between health system and stakeholders to ensure a coordinated and collaborative approach that minimizes disruption to stakeholders 

Coordinates with the Medical Group where appropriate to recruit and onboard new physicians.  Ensures self and/or liaisons are available to, among other things, orient physicians to the health system and introduce them to other physicians and the community to ensure ease of practice, assimilation into the organization’s culture, and educate them on the various services within the network to meet their patients’ needs. 

Host promotional and sponsorship events to educate AnMed’s stakeholders of our presence and services in the community.  Owns and manages the planning, set-up, staffing (including recruiting volunteer support), take-down, and debrief of each event.  Such events could include golf tournaments, local community events (e.g., Anderson Spring Soiree, Rhythm on the River), healthcare events (e.g., HeartWalk, YMCA Midnight Flight run, health screenings), and other opportunities to promote AnMed and demonstrate our position as an engaged business neighbor and community partner. 

Take ownership and creativity in finding face-to-face ways to promote AnMed in a positive manner to the communities we serve that are aligned with our brand, strategy, and marketing priorities.  Coordinates with Marketing to secure necessary collateral, “swag”, and other material to accompany business development efforts.   

Manage and maintain thorough electronic documentation in sales-oriented database to record interactions, to document issues and resolution, and to communicate to others where appropriate.  Coordinates with the Business Development team to ensure consistent content and routine reporting and follow-up of information and tasks.  

EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS 

Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, healthcare administration or related field preferred. 

Minimum five years’ business development or sales experience promoting a large organization to various stakeholders.  Healthcare experience and physician relations highly preferred. 

Minimum of three years’ experience managing personnel, budgets, and projects of various size. 

Demonstrated ability to achieve predetermined key performance indicators, including growth targets. 

Working knowledge of legal and regulatory issues in the healthcare industry, particularly with respect to interacting with physicians and other referral sources. 

Must be proactive and a self-starter with exceptional relationship and communications skills. 

Must be willing to work at corporate-sponsored events on weekends, evenings, and other times when needed. 

Must be willing to travel locally/regionally to various locations, including physician offices, employers, sponsorship events, etc. (60-70% of work time).
