We are looking for a collaborative leader who will help create a competitive advantage for the Otis business in China by generating new opportunities for Otis through acquisitions, joint ventures, alliances with Key stakeholders but not limited to state own enterprises Key accounts, Property Management Companies and other specific China business ventures to help improve market capabilities and business growth. He/she will be highly skilled at networking in the China Business context and making connections with new prospects/ governments/ key accounts/ Property developers and other target elevator/escalator industry related players. The incumbent should possess strong functional comprehensive expertise relative to Business Development, as it would be the primary contact and lead for new business development and subsequent integration activities. the BD Senior Director would conduct final reviews of all deals and business ventures undertaken to assess results vs business case projections, ensuring that all learnt lessons are applied consistently.
The Business Development Senior Director role will be based in Shanghai and report APAC Business Development and work closely with the President, Otis China and the extended China Leadership Team.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Analyze, evaluate, and make recommendations for new business opportunities, acquisitions, mergers, joint ventures, technology or manufacturing opportunities and their related operational and financial approaches, that have the potential to enhance Otis China’s business base, and provide such results to senior management with timely and accurate analyses, intelligence, and evaluation reviews.
Assist the business ventures in China by assessing the competitive landscape, business case development, lead generation, conducting due diligence reviews, negotiations etc.
Lead and coordinate cross functional business teams for effective integration activities. Accountable for the creation and delivery of a disciplined integration strategy, process and execution plan. Will monitor the financial and other integration objectives, assessing the results vs business case projections, ensuring that all learnt lessons are applied consistently
Maintain effective communication with Otis China Operating Units regarding each unit's business development strategy, pending transactions, and identification of desirable acquisition/new venture targets.
Work closely with leadership and cross-functional members of management team to drive and implement business growth strategy and long-range planning based on portfolio opportunities, financing needs and organizational capabilities. Assist in identifying Business organizational gaps and plans for how to best address them.
Facilitate the review and approval process by coordinating staff and functional reviews, third parties’ involvements, etc., through effective communication and cooperation.
Prepare timely analyses, market studies and recommendations of business development transactions for Otis China Management and/or Otis Acquisition Committee reviews and ensure the response to committee member's questions/ follow-ups.
Collaborate with Regional and Global Business Development team on regular business/pipeline review, win/loss analysis, and facilitate implementation of actions.
Responsible for other business responsibilities based on the person’s expertise and capabilities that will be assigned by cognizant management.
EXPERIENCE & KEY QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate has:
A minimum of 10 years of business-relevant development experience with a demonstrated ability to generate and execute new opportunities and acquisitions.
Extensive hands on knowledge and experience in building & analyzing valuation models, designing and driving target due-diligence process and other activities integral to M&A projects.
Elevator, escalator, or construction industry experience is preferred
Other key qualifications include:
Excellent project management skills - must be able to track workstreams across various stakeholders and ensure deadlines are met.
Demonstrated ability for strategic vision, planning, challenging the “status quo” and execution.
Good judgment and excellent negotiation skills
Ability to secure relevant information and identify possible causes and solutions; inquisitive mindset and able to navigate ambiguity
Experience in driving change management by partnering and influencing various levels of an organization.
Relevant China’s experience finalizing deals and business ventures, including with State Owned Enterprises (SOE) and Private Owned Enterprises and other JV partners.
Anticipates resources needed for successful implementation; develops contingency plans and adapt strategies and actions to changing business conditions
Able to determine alternative solutions to problems and make timely decisions
Experience working in projects with cross-functional teams that span across different time zones and locations.
Excellent command of English and communication skills, both written and spoken
Express ideas clearly and be easily understood by others, with demonstrated persuasive capability of handling difficult decisions
Passionate, diligent, disciplined, reliable to accomplish business results in an inclusive manner
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Marketing, Finance, or a related BD discipline. A Master’s degree is also preferred.
