Business Intelligence Developer
Responsibilities The Power BI Developer will design, develop, and maintain business intelligence solutions using Microsoft's Power BI platform. The role involves working closely with various business units to gather requirements, create insightful reports and dashboards, and optimize data models for performance and usability. The ideal candidate should have strong skills in data analysis, report development, and experience working with relational databases, data warehouses, and cloud environments. Key Responsibilities: Dashboard & Report Development: Design and build interactive reports and dashboards using Power BI based on business requirements. Data Modeling: Develop and optimize data models, including star and snowflake schemas, to support reporting and analytics. ETL Processes: Collaborate with data engineers to integrate data from multiple sources and create efficient ETL processes. DAX Functions: Write complex DAX queries and formulas to create calculated columns, measures, and other custom logic within Power BI. Performance Tuning: Optimize Power BI reports and datasets to ensure performance and scalability across large data volumes. Collaboration: Work with business stakeholders to gather requirements, create proof-of-concepts, and iterate on solutions based on feedback. Data Visualization: Ensure that visual elements are intuitive, actionable, and tailored to end-user needs, presenting data insights effectively. Security & Access Control: Implement row level data security within Power BI, ensuring that sensitive data is protected and access is properly controlled based on roles. Documentation: Maintain technical documentation for reports, dashboards, and data models, ensuring they are up-to-date and accessible. Training & Support: Provide training and support to end-users and business teams on how to use Power BI reports and dashboards effectively. Qualifications BS in Computer Science, IT, IS, or equivalent area of technical study with at least 5 years’ experience Power BI Expertise: Proven experience developing reports and dashboards using Power BI Premium, including Power BI Service, Semantic layer, and Power BI Desktop. DAX: Strong proficiency in DAX (Data Analysis Expressions) for writing complex queries and calculations in Power BI. SQL Proficiency: Experience writing and optimizing SQL queries to retrieve data from relational databases. Data Modeling: Experience building and optimizing data models, including normalization, relationships, and calculated fields. Data Integration: Experience with integrating data from various sources such as SQL Server, Excel, and Snowflake. Cloud Platforms: Familiarity with cloud platforms like Azure or AWS, specifically with data storage and integration services such as Azure SQL, Data Lake, or Blob Storage. Problem Solving: Ability to troubleshoot issues, optimize report performance, and find creative solutions to complex data challenges. Data Governance: Understanding of data governance, including data catalogs, security, privacy, and compliance concerns when handling sensitive information. Version Control: Familiarity with version control tools like Git for managing changes to reports and datasets.
