The AWS Facility Operations Center (FOC) team is seeking a Business Intelligence Engineer (BIE) to serve as a technical resource and leader to drive the team’s long-term vision within the Data Center Community (DCC).
Key job responsibilities
• Lead the design, implementation, and delivery of BI solutions in complex, ambiguous or poorly defined problem spaces.
• Proactively work to improve the consistency and integration between the team’s BI solutions and any related systems or artifacts (owned by other teams).
• Influence the team’s technical and business strategy by making insightful contributions to team priorities and lead in identifying and solving BI architecture deficiencies that limit the innovation.
• Able to communicate your ideas effectively to achieve the right outcome for the team and customer. Seek diverse perspectives, listen to feedback, and be willing to change direction if it creates a better outcome.
• Lead design reviews for BI solutions or analyses for the team and actively participate in reviews for partner teams.
• Actively participate in the hiring process as well as mentor others - improving their skills, their knowledge of your BI solutions, and their ability to get things done.
• Influence technical decisions made by partner teams via collaborative software effort or by driving BI engineering best practices (e.g. analytical rigor, code quality, data quality, data modelling, operational excellence, automation, visualization).
• Automate reporting and process solutions and data infrastructure improvements to meet business needs.
About the team
The Facility Operations Center (FOC) is the centralized 24/7 remote monitoring hub for AWS power, cooling, and fire life safety infrastructure. The FOC supports global availability by identifying and communicating immediate risks to infrastructure to Data Center Engineering Operations (DCEO) and DCC senior leadership. We support event response through call facilitation, vendor engagement, partner team escalations, and vending of real time data to reduce event recovery time. The FOC owns post event reporting and analysis for customer impacting and System Impaired Events (SIE), to trend and improve performance metrics across the global data center fleet.
The FOC team is seeking a BIE to design, develop, and implement business critical metrics for our global team and customers within engineering and operations. As a BIE, you will partner with Data Engineers and cross functional teams to harness the vast amount of operational data from the AWS fleet, and will use this data to generate insights that will guide operational excellence and improvements on behalf AWS customers. In addition, you will build mechanisms that enable Engineering divisions to make informed, data driven, business decisions. Data analysis is at the core Amazon’s culture, and your work will have a direct impact on decision making and strategy for our organization.

Basic Qualifications
- 3+ years of analyzing and interpreting data with Redshift, Oracle, NoSQL etc. experience
- 2+ years experience with data visualization using Tableau, Quicksight, or similar tools
- 2+ years experience with data modeling, warehousing and building ETL pipelines
- 2+ years experience using SQL to pull data from a database or data warehouse and scripting experience (Python) to process data for modeling
- 2+ years experience in Statistical Analysis packages such as Pandas
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with AWS solutions such as EC2, DynamoDB, S3, and Redshift
- Experience in data mining, ETL, etc. and using databases in a business environment with large-scale, complex datasets
- Experience with data center physical infrastructure and operations (diesel generators, UPS, chillers, air handlers, etc.) as well as with Building Management System and Electrical Power Monitoring System controls and alarming

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $89,600/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
