Business Risk and Controls Manager

This is a hybrid role with 50% on-site requirement in Wilmington, MA.

We are seeking an experienced SOX Control Manager to oversee our Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance program. The ideal candidate will partner with business process owners to define risks and ensure that our controls are effectively designed, embedded in standard processes, and operate as intended to mitigate identified risks. This role is critical in safeguarding our organization's financial integrity and promoting a culture of accountability. This role will work closely with business units, internal audit, corporate accounting, and senior leadership to strengthen controls, and support the organization in achieving SOX compliance as a strategic objective and managing potential risks.

Responsibilities:

Develop, implement, and maintain the SOX compliance program, including policies and procedures related to internal controls.Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify, assess, and mitigate risks associated with financial reporting and internal controls.Support remediation and implementation of control failuresAssist with the development of risk dashboards, scorecards, and reports for internal and external reporting purposes.Maintain a risk register, track the status of identified risks, and report on risk management efforts and outcomes to senior management and key stakeholders.Provide regular updates to senior leadership regarding the status of SOX initiatives and control effectiveness.Educate business process owners of the SOX regulation and requirements as well as the risks of non-compliance to successful operations.Serve as the primary liaison with external auditors during the SOX testing process.Monitor changes in regulations and industry standards, making necessary updates to internal policies and procedures.Conduct regular assessments of financial processes to ensure adherence to SOX requirements.
Qualifications

Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.5+ years of experience in SOX compliance, internal audit, or financial controls, or related fields, with at least 2 years in a managerial or supervisory capacity.Proven experience in designing, implementing, and monitoring internal control frameworks and SOX compliance programs.Strong knowledge of internal control frameworks, and risk management principles.Previous experience in a publicly traded company or a regulated industry.Robust understanding of regulatory requirements (e.g., SOX, GDPR, HIPAA) and industry best practices.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex issues and develop effective solutions.Excellent communication skills, with the ability to interact with senior leadership and stakeholders across the organization.Ability to influence and drive change, particularly in complex environments with multiple stakeholders.Proficiency in relevant software and tools, such as Excel, audit management software (i.e. AuditBoard), and Visio.Strong project management skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.Attention to detail with the ability to maintain high levels of accuracy and integrity.Certifications: Professional certifications such as Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Risk Management Professional (CRMP), or Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) or Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
