The English Department is a large department in the College of Arts and Sciences offering B.A., B.A. with licensure, M.A., MFA and PhD degrees. The Department has 35 full-time faculty members: 18 tenure-line (2 are Excellence Professors), 3 Academic Professionals, and 14 full-time lecturers. Additional instruction is provided by 30 teaching assistants. The Department has approximately 75 Ph.D., M.A. and MFA graduate students and over 300 undergraduates first and second majors. The department offers approximately 375 courses each academic year. In addition, the Department publishes a literary journal, The Greensboro Review.The Department of English has the following administrative positions and programs. Department Head; Associate Head; Director of Graduate Studies (Ph.D., M.A., M.Ed.}; Director of Creative Writing (MFA); Director of Undergraduate Studies (B.A.); Director of College Writing; and Director of English Education. Position Summary The Business Services Coordinator is responsible for managing the daily operations of the English Department. This includes responsibility for personnel and financial management, report analysis and summary as well as providing administrative support to the Head, Associate Head, Director of Undergraduate Studies and Director of Writing. BACHELOR’S DEGREE IN BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION OR A RELATED DISCIPLINE; OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE. ALL DEGREES MUST BE RECEIVED FROM APPROPRIATELY ACCREDITED INSTITUTIONS.

Key Responsibility Personnel Management Essential Tasks Assists Head with compiling and assembling Faculty Workload Documentation, Departmental Assessments, and Annual Reporting. Organize promotion/tenure documents in Faculty Success. Also consults regularly with faculty and dossier advisers to ensure all materials are submitted properly. Administrative oversight for Tenure-line and Professional Track Faculty and staff hiring using UNCG SpartanTalent and other administrative tasks associated with hiring: room reservations, reimbursements Prepares EPAFs and PD7s for returning and new research assistants and approves all EPAFs, PD7s and add­ pays; Assist Associate Head with hiring of lecturers which involves organizing application materials on Canvas; requesting documentation necessary for hiring. Certifies all faculty hires by doing reference checks and communicating with new hires regarding completion of hiring paperwork; Complete credentialing forms prior to beginning of classes for new lecturers and teaching assistants in the fall/spring semesters Key Responsibility Financial Management Essential Tasks Manages and approves all personnel and non-personnel internal operations (10 accounts) plus Excellence Professorships (Class of 1949 (2) Class of 1952, Friedlander, and Rosenthal trust funds); Advises in the planning and development of major departmental budget for non-personnel needs (over $100,000); Prepares department’s one-time budget requests ($20,000-40,000) after consultations with external vendors and soliciting requests from faculty and staff; Handles deposits for two revenue accounts: English Graduate Student Association (EGSA-amount varies based on revenues) and English Composition (over $3500 annually) Monitors gift receipts to the department’s Enrichment Fund and Excellence Professorships; Manages shift of funds between endowment funds and quasi funds Liaison with Contracts and Grants for faculty grants Supervises the preparation of purchase orders and payments from all accounts; Supervises the submission of travel reimbursement documents and manages reimbursement from appropriate accounts Approves purchasing of all equipment and furniture Authorizes expenditures for purchasing of computers, photocopiers, laser printers, supplies and furniture. Determines how much of departments operating budget can be flexed to fund graduate student travel and special programs; Advises faculty on preparation of grant proposals, Scholar’s Travel Fund, and International Travel funding applications; Key Responsibility Event Planning Essential Tasks Position will organize and supervise the departmental recognition ceremony. Position will supervise/assign duties to lecturers for facilitating the ceremony. Support New TA Orientation Schedule spaces for TA meetings and events, faculty meetings and events for job candidates Position will meet with the Auditorium Manager prior to ceremony. Position will compile data from various offices & software applications to prepare the recognition ceremony program. Position will attend ceremony and reception to assist with execution and provide direction to lecturers and others as needed. Position will plan Reception to follow the Ceremony. Position will secure Space for Ceremony Reception Engagement events Key Responsibility Administrative Support to Department Head, Associate Head, and Director of College Writing Essential Tasks Assists Head with Annual Assessment Reports Analyze reports and provide Schedule Metrics Review and Feedback to Associate Head and Director of College Writing in schedule planning. Serve as liaison to the bookstore; order desk copies as requested and order standard texts for English 101 Attend faculty meetings and take minutes. Special projects Provide administrative support to Head which involves running reports using WebFocus; assisting with analysis and summarization of the reports. Support for professional development of tenure-stream, professional track, and graduate teaching assistants.
