Role Definition:

The Business Solution Architect plays a crucial role in driving business success by supporting strategic planning and technical innovation. This individual works closely with the Senior Business Solutions Architect, business leaders and Caterpillar IT to envision, define and align Global Parts Pricing initiatives that deliver the greatest customer value and support Caterpillar IT technology objectives. This business-minded, technology-skilled architect will be responsible for understanding our business needs and translating them into effective, scalable solutions. This role requires a combination of technical expertise, strategic thinking, and exceptional communication skills to ensure that business requirements are met with tailored technology solutions.  This role serves as a bridge between the Global Parts Pricing Team and Caterpillar IT.

As a Business Solution Architect, you will jointly own the definition, design, and execution oversight of Global Parts Pricing technology roadmap. You will collaborate closely with the Sr. Business Solutions Architect, Business Leaders, Caterpillar IT and peers in the Analytics Team to ensure that our analytics and systems are in alignment with business needs and best-fit technology architectures. Your role will involve active participation in critical business initiatives, providing expert input / recommendations on technology solution / approach / architecture.  Collaborate with stakeholders to gather and analyze business requirements, objectives, and challenges.

What You Will Do:

Assist in detailed solution designs, including system architecture, data flow diagrams, and integration points.

Evaluate and recommend technology platforms, tools, and methodologies to support business needs.

Monitor and assess the performance of implemented solutions, identifying opportunities for optimization and improvement.

Ensure adherence to best practices, security standards, and regulatory requirements throughout the solution lifecycle.

Provide technical guidance and support to project managers, developers, and other team members.

Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices to drive innovation and continuous improvement.

What You Have:  

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Business Administration, or a related field. Master’s degree is a plus.

Proven experience as a Solutions Architect or in a similar role, with a strong background in designing and implementing business solutions.

Experience in software development, database architectures, cloud computing, security, and networking

Knowledge of Machine Learning Models and Artificial Intelligence

Extensive knowledge of architecture frameworks, software development lifecycle, and project management methodologies.

Proficiency in relevant technologies, such as cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud), enterprise applications, and integration tools.

Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to present complex concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Experience with Agile and Scrum methodologies is highly desirable.

An effective communicator, able to convey complex ideas clearly and concisely, is comfortable in business and technical discussions.

Expert in building trusting relationships and influencing others (including executive audiences).

Understands and speaks the language of the business. Excellent written, verbal, communication, and presentation skills with the ability to articulate innovative ideas and concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.

Top Candidates Will Have:

Relevant certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, AWS DevOps Engineer, AWS Data Engineer) are a plus.

Experience in multiple technologies including Distributed/ Mainframe / Integration/ ERP, Integration technologies; Snowflake; PowerBI; Machine Learning; Generative Artificial Intelligence.

Hands-on experience with infrastructure as code in cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)

Demonstrated ability in modular application design and container orchestration with tools like Amazon ECS, Azure Container Instances, and Google Cloud Run

Strong organization and planning skills.

Strong written and verbal communications skills.

Knowledge and experience in project management (Scope, Cost and Time Estimation, Resource Planning etc.)

Innovation mindset.

Participates in the technical design of a specific application.

Selects and presents design alternatives for applications of small to medium complexity.

Platform Architecture: Knowledge of technologies and methods to design processing mechanisms and roadmaps to execute business application systems; ability to design these roadmaps and deploy supportive interfaces for end users to access related systems, in accordance with standards and processes.

Level Working Knowledge:

Designs routine platform architectural roadmaps and relevant solutions for end-users to access interfaces.

Tests the effectiveness of platform architecture and ensures that business requirements are fully met, while using the platform architecture.

Solves routine problems in the design process of platform architectural roadmaps; documents these issues.
