Job Title: Business Systems Analyst – Mainframe Modernization (Fully Remote) Location: Remote Clearance: Must be a US citizen and be able to obtain a Public Trust and pass a background check Project Focus: Mainframe Modernization Databases: Oracle, SQL Server, Sybase, CICS Languages: COBOL, ALC, Java, C++ Job Summary: We are seeking an experienced Business Systems Analyst to play a key role in a mainframe modernization project. This role focuses on analyzing business processes, defining requirements, and supporting the successful modernization of systems built using COBOL, ALC, and integrated with modern languages such as Java and C++. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of legacy systems, relational databases, and the ability to bridge technical and business teams. Experience in user training, requirement gathering, and system analysis is essential for this fully remote position. Key Responsibilities: + Requirements Definition & Analysis: + Collaborate with business stakeholders to gather, document, and analyze functional and non-functional requirements. + Develop clear business requirements, use cases, process flows, and technical specifications. + Perform gap analysis between existing mainframe systems and proposed modernized solutions. + System Analysis: + Analyze mainframe systems (e.g., COBOL, ALC) and their interactions with databases like CICS, Oracle, SQL, and Sybase. + Support developers and database administrators in understanding system workflows, dependencies, and integration points. + Provide input on transitioning hierarchical databases to relational systems. + Testing & Validation: + Support QA and testing teams by creating test plans and validating that systems meet business requirements post-modernization. + Act as a liaison between testing teams and technical developers to resolve issues and clarify requirements. + User Training & Support: + Develop user training materials, system manuals, and standard operating procedures (SOPs). + Conduct training sessions for end users on newly modernized systems and processes. + Provide ongoing support to ensure smooth adoption of modernized applications. + Stakeholder Collaboration: + Work closely with developers, database administrators, project managers, and business units to ensure alignment and project success. + Facilitate workshops, demonstrations, and stakeholder reviews. Qualifications: + Required Experience: + 5+ years of experience as a Business Systems Analyst in complex IT modernization projects. + Experience working with mainframe systems using COBOL and ALC. + Strong understanding of relational databases (e.g., Oracle, SQL Server, Sybase) and hierarchical data models (e.g., CICS). + Experience with requirement gathering, creating business process flows, and system analysis documentation. + Demonstrated ability to train and support end users. + Technical Skills: + Familiarity with programming languages like Java and C++ for system integrations. + Proficiency with tools such as JIRA, Confluence, or similar for documentation and requirements tracking. + Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities for system analysis and modernization planning. + Soft Skills: + Excellent written and verbal communication skills to bridge technical and business teams. + Ability to work independently in a fully remote environment while managing multiple priorities. + Strong stakeholder management and collaboration skills.
