Job Summary

Responsible for the purchasing function for all maintenance repair and replacement parts; responsible for maintaining correct inventory levels and accountability for stocked maintenance repair parts at assigned location.

Maximizes the profitability of the division and the company in the maintenance parts area by obtaining competitive bidding for all maintenance parts and materials allowing for top quality items at the best possible price and for favorable delivery and service schedules.

Job Responsibilities

Assists Purchasing Agent in overseeing the daily operations of the purchasing department including schedules, assignments, staffing, labor utilization, cost, etc.

Maintains accurate and current inventory records of all maintenance supply and repair parts and physically inventories required items as required.

Obtains competitive bidding on item requisitioned to ensure the highest quality at the best possible price and favorable delivery and service agreements. Coordinates with purchasing department at the General Office.

Maintains warehouse in an orderly manner and acceptable to USDA standards.

Issues parts and supplies as requested, maintaining accurate accountability an efficient and cooperative atmosphere.

Reconciles purchase orders with incoming supplies to ensure that the company is in receipt of all goods requisitioned.

Provides leadership, training and encouragement in an atmosphere of safety consciousness. 

Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Reports to Purchasing Agent who provides general supervision and policy guidance concerning the scope of assigned work as well as specific assignments.

Communicates daily with Maintenance Manager and supervisor’s plant regarding maintenance parts and other supplies.

Interacts with accounting department regarding purchasing procedure, inventories and costs.

Communicates with vendors and salespersons regarding bids, pricing, costs, quality, delivery, repairs and replacement.

Identifies with the values, philosophy and mission of Sanderson Farms, Inc.

Good communication skills, both oral and written. 

Knowledge of use of personal computer, typewriter, calculator, etc.

Good analytical ability. Skilled at analyzing bids/pricing.

Education

High school graduate, two years junior college or equivalent experience. 

Experience

Two or more years’ experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment atmosphere.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Office

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to risk of injury in an office environment.  Duties include a typical office setting including extensive computer work, sitting, or standing.
