Job Title: Buyer Job Description Buyers are responsible for quality, quantity, and margins for scrap material purchased from industrial and dealer accounts. They research business growth in service areas to identify possible new customers and consistently call on potential new dealer and industrial accounts to solicit new business. Buyers write and present proposals to customers, meet quantity volume and margin requirements established by management, and provide detailed daily activity reports that specifically identify customer contacts, plans for follow-up, and upcoming activity. Responsibilities + Research business growth in service area to identify possible new customers. + Consistently call on potential new dealer and industrial accounts to solicit new business. + Write and present proposals to customers. + Meet quantity volume and margin requirements established by management. + Provide detailed daily activity reports that identify customer contacts, plans for follow-up, and upcoming activity. + Track account activity, adequacy of service, and pricing, and adjust as appropriate to maintain customer loyalty. + Ensure all boxes and product are accounted for, for your customers. + Deal with customer service problems courteously and expeditiously. + Identify opportunities to increase business with existing customers. + Display excellent communication skills, including presentation, persuasion, and negotiation skills. + Maintain an energetic, knowledgeable, outgoing, and interested demeanor when dealing with customers in person or over the phone. + Wear appropriate professional attire and ensure your vehicle is clean when visiting customers. + Negotiate fairly and effectively, fully documenting all agreements and confirming them with the customer. + Confirm pricing and service arrangements with management before making commitments where necessary. Essential Skills + Purchasing and buying experience. + Inventory management. + Experience with metals and metal products. + Supply chain and procurement expertise. + ERP systems knowledge. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Scrap metal/metal recycling purchasing background is a huge plus. + Industrial experience is secondary. + Six months to one year related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. + Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school. + Sales experience is a plus. Work Environment This role is based in a scrap metal facility dealing primarily in non-ferrous metals. The work environment involves working in the elements, which is covered but does not have air conditioning. Professional attire and a clean, reliable vehicle are required for customer visits.
