Buyer - Corporate Purchasing - Full Time

Position Summary:
The buyer is responsible for assisting the purchasing manager with functions related to the procurement of both direct purchases and consigned items. The buyer works with requisitioning departments to ensure accurate ordering and fulfillment in a timely fashion and within the context of the organization’s strategic purchasing goals. They maintain accurate records of all transactions, purchase orders, and contracts, and emphasize cost, quality, and patient outcomes. The buyer engages in a culture of continuous improvement to meet and exceed the procurement philosophy set forth by the organization.
Education, License & Cert:
High School Grad or Equivalent is required.
Experience:
Experience with purchasing and vendor relations, preferably in a healthcare setting is preferred.
Essential Functions:
1. Adheres to the organization’s procurement policies and procedures, emphasizing cost, quality, lead time, and service. 2. Interacts directly with departments and individuals on requisitions and orders, and problem solves any issues arising during the procurement process. 3. Evaluates requisitions for completeness and accuracy of information and works with departments to clarify and complete orders, determining the best method for placing orders. 4. Works with accounts payable to ensure proper and timely payments through communication with vendors, and supports purchasing expediter to resolve shipping problems and backorders with vendors 5. Maintains proper professional and ethical relationships with vendor representatives and conducts business according to established principals and guidelines. 6. Reviews purchase orders regularly to ensure pricing, units of measure, and delivery dates align with the purchase orders and meet the department’s requirements. 7. Stays current on existing contracts and pricing agreements with vendors and monitors the accuracy of item pricing information, contract updates, and changes to the item master. 8. Actively responds to special requests for items needed for patient care. 9. Assists purchasing manager with purchasing activities, including identifying and implementing cost reduction initiatives and addressing regulatory issues related to inventory management and procurement.
Other Duties:
1. Establishes and maintains the proper professional and ethical relationship with all sales representatives. 2. Participates in hospital committees, projects and quality improvement teams as appropriate. 3. Adopts a plan of personal growth and development. 4. Carries out other responsibilities as necessary. 5. Performs other duties as assigned.
