Buyer I

The Buyer is responsible for the purchase of assigned commodities to meet production needs and internal specifications. The Buyer will identify and select suppliers, negotiate prices and terms with and establish and manage relationships with designated suppliers, will manage the purchasing cycle and will address supplier quality issues related to supplier product.

What you will do as a Buyer I: Secures quotes from qualified suppliers of assigned materials to obtain most favorable prices and services consistent with quality requirements. Purchases product to support Manufactured Products and non inventory requirements. Expedites purchase orders in order to maintain material flow and provide customer requests. Maintains appropriate purchasing files as required. Plans and negotiates long-term contracts with favorable impact on inventory goals, quality, continuity of supply and corporate cost objectives. Negotiates and facilitate the return of rejected and obsolete material. Reconciles Accounts Payable discrepancies.    Analyzes suppliers for financial health and stability of the Company.  Assists quality department in assessing the supplier’s ability to meet STERIS quality requirements. Manages commodity to meet strategic position of the company. Selects and maintain suppliers to support manufacturing and corporate procurement requirements. Selects and maintains suppliers to support manufacturing and corporate procurement requirements. Works with Quality Control for inventory items and the requisitioners for non-inventory items to assure that the supplier fully understands the quality requirements of the purchase. Participates in any quality audits of assigned supplier and maintains records, which will allow STERIS to evaluate supplier performance.  The Experience, Skills, and Abilities Needed:

Required:

Bachelor's Degree in Business, Supply Chain, or related field.  0-2 years of experience in a procurement field.

 

Preferred:

Experience in a lean manufacturing environment. Direct hands-on experience in a MRP system environment.

 

Skills:

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Word and Excel. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively. Displays willingness to make timely decisions; exhibits sound and accurate judgement; includes appropriate people in decision making process; makes timely decisions. Strong negotiation skills: ability to reach agreement while avoiding conflict/dispute. Ability to achieve favorable outcomes for STERIS. Ability to work in a team environment. Exhibits objectivity and openness to others’ views; gives / welcomes feedback; contributes to building a positive team environment; establishes and maintains constructive working relationships; puts success of team above own interests; able to build morale and group commitments to goals and objectives; supports everyone’s efforts to succeed. Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness; looks for ways to improve and promote quality. Work Schedule This is a hybrid schedule opportunity based in Montgomery, AL. The schedule is 3 days/week onsite, 2 days/week remote.
