Summary:
The Buyer II performs daily logistical material planning at Thermo Fisher Scientific in Frederick, MD. The core responsibilities include creating and supervising material Purchase Orders using the site’s ERP software and other tools, and analyzing material demands in light of supply. The buyer ensures that materials are available to maintain scheduled activity within the manufacturing labs and distribution centers.
What will you do?
Use Material Requirements Planning (MRP) to plan and implement purchase orders.Monitor present and future inventory levels and usage.Work with key partners to help handle inventory levels.Provide material availability as an input for production planning.Resolve accounts payable issues.Collaborate with key suppliers to discuss metrics and forecast.Negotiate with suppliers to implement improved pricing, strategies, policies, and procedures.Participate on process improvement, quality improvement and lean initiative project teams.Supports the development and implementation of processes and efficiencies through lean initiatives (Practical Process Improvement)Ensures supplier contract compliance where applicable.Support the creation and revision of raw material specifications.Contributes to divisional procurement metrics for business reviews.Other duties as assigned by supervisor.How will you get here?
Education:
HS Diploma or GED required.2+ years of proven experience.Bachelor’s degree preferred.Experience:
Manufacturing supply chain or procurement role
APICS, CSPM or equivalent certification preferred.
Relevant experience in the Life Science or Medical Device industry, including experience with ISO and FDA regulations preferred.
Experience with ERP systems such as JD Edwards Enterprise One (E1) Oracle or other ERP software.
Ability to critically think, problem solve, and work efficiently under pressure.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Strong analytical skills combined with practical discernment.
Ability to thrive in a matrix and diverse cross-functional team environment.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a global organization, within operations and with external clients.
Agility in managing multiple tasks within tight deadlines.
Self-motivated individual who can work independently and within a team to get results.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, solid understanding of MS applications - Outlook, Power Point, Word, OneNote, Teams
Ability to work independently, typically initiating own tasks with input/mentorship from manager.
Excellent written and oral communication skills with a high level of diplomacy

Compensation and Benefits
The salary range estimated for this position based in Maryland is $59,400.00–$87,000.00.This position may also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy.
