C&I Portfolio Manager
The Commercial Portfolio Manager III is responsible for managing existing loan relationships in collaboration with a Commercial Banker. Portfolio Managers must have excellent credit analysis and writing skills, as Portfolio management duties include underwriting loan renewals and modifications; acting as the primary point of contact for existing loan relationships; coordinating receipt of financial information; covenant tracking and compliance monitoring; and review of borrowing base certificates and accounts receivable aging schedules. S/he will work directly with borrowers, the underwriting team, internal and external legal counsel, loan servicing department, and Credit Risk Management to generate credit authorizations (i.e. loan modifications, risk rating changes) for internal approval and documentation. The position requires a proactive banker with strong credit acumen, excellent communication skills, adroit customer relationship management, as well as the ability to effectively prioritize multiple requests and meet tight deadlines. This position may also manage junior staff. Knowledge/experience with nonprofits and/or sustainable energy markets a plus. Essential Job Functions: + Portfolio Management + Provide ongoing daily management of a growing portfolio of loan relationships and promptly respond to incoming requests/inquiries from borrowers. + Prepare and present credit approval memoranda for approval following bank policy guidelines. Writing must be clear, concise, and accurately address the relevant creditworthiness of the borrower. + Request information from borrowers when due, analyze financial statements, structure and underwrite new credit requests such as loan modifications and renewals. + In collaboration with commercial banker, negotiate rates, fees, and terms with clients that meet Bank ROE guidelines. + Work directly with bank’s counsel to help prepare loan documentation for borrower to execute. + Manage assigned loan portfolio within bank policy and customer service standards. + Communicate effectively about bank products to customers. + Address issues and provide solutions for existing borrowers. + Review financial statements on an ongoing basis for covenant compliance. + Monitor monthly borrowing base certificates and confirm availability. + Organize and maintain credit files. + Prepare and present reports for internal meetings (i.e. loan quality meetings) + Prepare responses for information requests from internal and external auditors. + Direct loan payments and reserve account distributions per payment waterfall schedules in loan agreements. + Identify and report problem accounts in a timely manner. + Monitor changes in borrower risk and recommend appropriate upgrades/downgrades. + Leadership + Proactively manage loan relationships by setting appropriate client expectations and meeting deadlines. + Proactively keep management, commercial bankers and other team members informed on the progress with client requests and other deliverables. + Demonstrate ability and capacity to manage junior team members + Support efforts of other team members. + Provide input to supervisor on policies and procedures. + Recommend ways to improve the organization. + Management + This position may manage junior staff members. Knowledge, Skills and Experience Requirements: + Bachelor’s degree in, Finance or Accounting or equivalent experience + 3-5 years prior relevant experience in commercial credit analysis /underwriting/portfolio management + Formal credit training and minimum of five (5) years of underwriting and account management experience within a commercial banking lending environment + Demonstrated knowledge of loan structures and treasury products + Ability to analyze financial statements and understand critical lending/financial ratios + Excellent negotiation skills + Sufficient knowledge of Federal and State banking regulations (including but not limited to BSA, OFAC, Reg B, Reg O, Reg Z, and Reg BB) and Bank Policies pertinent to performance of duties to avoid regulatory violations + Highly proficient in MS excel, including financial analysis and modeling + Communication: speaks clearly and effectively, is thoughtful, persuasive; writes clearly and informatively; varies writing style to meet client needs + Business acumen: understands business implications of decisions; displays orientation to profitability; demonstrates knowledge of market and competition; aligns work with strategic goals and performance objectives + Judgment: exhibits sound and accurate judgment; can clearly explain reasoning for decisions; includes appropriate people in decision-making process; demonstrates persistence and overcomes obstacles; takes calculated risks within bank tolerance to accomplish goals + Professionalism: reacts well under pressure; treats others with respect and consideration; accepts responsibility for own actions; follows through on commitments, able to present concise arguments, can disagree and accept disagreement without undue emotion or resorting to personal attacks + Problem solving: identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner; works with others to solve complex issues + Customer service: responds efficiently and cordially to requests for service and assistance within bank customer service standards; meets commitments + Dependability: completes tasks on time; takes responsibility for own actions; detail oriented; ability to prioritized effectively and meet deadlines; can be relied upon + Teamwork: promotes team goals over individual accomplishment; provides assistance and guidance to other team members; participates in team activities Our job titles may span more than one career level. The starting base salary for this role is $120,000.00 - $145,000.00. The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as: training, transferrable skills, work experience, business needs and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
