CAE Engineer, High Voltage Power Electronics

Ford EV Digital & Design is responsible for developing the key technologies and capabilities – such as EV platforms, batteries, e-motors, inverters, charging and recycling – to create ground-up, breakthrough electric vehicles. The Senior CAE Engineer will be responsible for supporting the mechanical design group in structural and thermal simulations and providing mechanical design inputs based on simulation results. 

B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or related field5+ years of finite element analysis in structural, thermal, and fluid simulationsExcellent understanding of materials, statics, dynamics, heat transfer, and fluid fundamentalsHigh attention to detail ensuring organization, accuracy, and quality of simulation and design work.Ability to review and act upon simulation and test results to improve the design.An eagerness to work cross-functionally in a dynamic environment where you are part of a high performing team.Hands-on experience prototyping, building, testing, and launching electromechanical systems.Strong engineering fundamentals, and ability to apply broadly to vehicle systems and manufacturing processes.

Preferred Requirements:

M.S. in Mechanical Engineering10+ years of finite element analysis in structural, thermal, and fluid simulations in electric vehicle technologies and components such as power conversion electronics, battery packs, traction inverters and HV power distribution systemsExcellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate technical information to cross functional teams and stakeholders.A system approach to design and development with the desire and curiosity to strive for exceptional delivery execution and continuous improvement.

Perform CAE analysis on power electronics components, ECUs, and complete systems to analytically simulate: Random vibe and shock, pothole, crash vibration scenariosPCBA modal analysisMechanical fatigue analysisThermal Analysis for switching devices and magnetic components while considering air and liquid cooling architecture.Fluid flow analysis including pressure drop calculations.Provide reports on simulations and conclusions/recommendations.Work with the mechanical design team to intimately understand and actively contribute to the product design process.Closely collaborate with cross-functional teams, including electrical, durability, testing, and contract manufacturers, to capture inputs to facilitate simulation accuracy. Drive correlation between simulated models and physical tests being run to further drive simulation accuracy.
