Summary

Position Highlights

 

The Cage Wash Technician operates cage wash equipment including sanitize and will perform preventative maintenance.

 

Responsibilities

 

Receives and stores incoming cage wash supplies. Prepares cages for cage wash, scrape dirty bedding from cages, clean and disinfect cages, water bottles, racks, and bedding pans on a daily basis. Prepares clean, sterilized caging and cleaned/sterilized water bottles for facility use each day for the following day. Prepare caging and autoclave as needed. Operates autoclave to sterilize or decontaminate caging equipment. Wash and disinfect animal rooms on a scheduled basis. Sweep and mop floors, wash walls, and sanitize facilities using common and special cleaning chemicals and equipment on a scheduled basis. Dispose of trash and waste material. Maintain a high level of cleanliness in all areas of the facility. Monitors cage wash equipment for malfunctions and report any problems to the supervisor. Performs daily maintenance requirements of cage wash equipment and notify supervisor of any equipment malfunctions. Ensures that all logbooks, checklists, and other records are completed in a timely fashion. Ensures the cage wash area is in compliance with all regulatory guidelines and SOPs. Receives and stores incoming cage wash supplies; maintain clean and orderly storage room(s). Maintains inventories of chemicals, indicators, and supplies used in washing and sterilizing operations. Stocks storeroom supplies, such as food, bedding, cleaning materials and other supplies. Maintains inventories of chemicals, indicators, and supplies used in washing and sterilizing operations. Maintains loading dock areas and entry areas in a clean and orderly condition. Removes trash and disposes of appropriately.

 

Credentials and Minimum Qualifications

 

High School Diploma/GED and six (6) months of animal care experience. Able to make decisions effectively and accurately in a fast-paced or changing environment. Able to be flexible to meet changing customer needs with minimal disruption and loss of productivity. Clearly, effectively and communicates respectfully. Must be willing to work and contribute effectively to a team setting. Basic computer and data-entry skills.
