BASIC REQUIREMENTS
High school diploma or GED from an accredited institution. Minimum of 2 years working in a manufacturing environment Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Associate degree in a STEM field (science, technology, engineering, or mathematics) or two years of relevant experience in calibration, metrology, heat treatment or electronics repair. Ability to read and understand electrical schematics. Experience with industry standards, such as AMS2750, AS9100, ISO9000, AS13000, Nadcap. Apply knowledge of measurement science, mathematics, physics, and electronics to calibrate measurement and test equipment to ensure equipment meets the specification requirements. Ability to communicate effectively with customers, co-workers and auditors. Can define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Detail-oriented with excellent documentation skills. This 1st shift Calibration Technician position will be located in the Howmet Research Center.
Primary responsibilities include:
Calibrate measurement instruments on laboratory and manufacturing equipment throughout the Howmet campus, including dimensional, temperature, electrical, flow, mechanical and thermodynamic disciplines. Perform temperature uniformity surveys on furnaces. Assemble thermocouples. Maintain equipment used for calibration, including sourcing/purchasing. Maintain accurate and detailed records of calibrations, tests, inspections and prepare reports. Develop, improve and utilize calibration procedures. Troubleshoot and resolve calibration related issues on process control and laboratory instruments in collaboration with maintenance and engineering teams. Work in a team-based atmosphere toward improving the calibration, laboratory and manufacturing process. Gain knowledge of industry and customer requirements for calibration and heat treatment pyrometry.
Additional factors affecting this position:
Must be able to drive locally among the Howmet Whitehall campus. Must be able to occasionally lift/move up to 25 pounds. Travel to other Howmet facilities outside of Whitehall, MI, may be required. Technician will have rotational off-shift on-call responsibilities.
