Job Vacancy Announcement Position Information Position Title Camp Navigator, Owl Scholars Summer Youth Program Position Type Staff Department Early College Partnerships, Learning Supports, and Faculty Affairs FLSA Non-Exempt Union/Non Union Non Union Full Time or Part Time Part Time Grade 4 Salary Range Hiring Salary Range $15.02 - $16.52 / hour Fixed Term/Tenure Track (Faculty Only) Regular or Temporary Temporary Job Description Summary Responsible for assisting instructors, Lab Coordinator and students in the program Minimum Qualifications EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE At least 18 years of age, with a high school diploma or equivalent At least six months of working experience Experience working with youth in an education, recreation, or camp setting is preferred. Criteria CRITERIA: The following criteria, which are not the sole criteria used in the final hiring decision, will be used to review the applications of those persons who meet the stated minimum qualifications and to select those qualified applicants who will be interviewed. ESSENTIAL DUTIES Lead a group of campers through daily schedules, promoting participation, and engagement. Assist with class activities, set up and clean up, and provide extra support to instructors as needed. Foster a sense of community among campers, encouraging respect, civility, teamwork, and positive social interactions. Provide tutoring support to campers during lab time. Monitor camper behavior, address minor conflicts, and follow camp protocols to maintain a safe and respectful environment in and outside of the classroom. Assist campers with the transition between classes, lunch, breaks, fire drills, and ensure safety, punctuality, and organization. Communicate camper progress, concerns, and accomplishments to the Program Coordinator, and Director and, when necessary, parents/legal guardians. Attend all required staff meetings, training sessions, and end-of-day debriefings to stay aligned with camp goals and objectives. Accompany campers to the campus nurse if they are feeling unwell, need medical assistance, or require first aid, and report the situation to the Program Coordinator and Director, and when necessary, complete incident report form. Performs other related duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to manage groups, resolve conflicts, and keep campers engaged. Ability to follow directions of instruction. Ability to demonstrate dependability and patience. Ability to work in a team environment. Ability to work outdoors and be physically active throughout the day. Demonstrated ability to deal with elementary aged students. Job Requirements PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSMust have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle, or feel objects and controls. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to a, personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine. No significant climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, pulling, grasping, and repetitive motions.OTHER REQUIREMENTS Extensive walking, standing, lifting and pushing throughout the day. Willing to submit to a fingerprint test. Ability to communicate effectively in spoken and written standard English. As required by the 1986 Immigration Act, be prepared to present acceptable documentation showing your identity and that you are a U.S. citizen or an alien who is authorized to work. A background investigation will be conducted prior to the offer of employment. A signed authorization for the release of personal information will be required if selected for an interview.
