Camp Nurse/Health Coordinator - Riverhead, NY

This position will serve as the Camp Nurse/Health Coordinator for DPF 4-H Camp, a residential summer camp owned and operated by Cornell Cooperative Extension Association of Nassau County, located in Riverhead, New York. The primary responsibilities of this position will include, but not be limited to: supervising the health and cleanliness standards for the DPF 4-H Camp, and working cooperatively with the Camp Director and Camp Staff to ensure adequate physical health conditions for all staff and camp participants. This position accepts and performs all position duties outlined in this position description, and performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned and deemed appropriate by the DPF 4-H Camp Director and/or Team Leader. (NOTE: This position does not include cabin responsibilities but does include camper/staff supervision for ones staying in the health lodge.)
Required Qualifications:
+ Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Registered Nurse (RN) or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT).
+ Desire, ability and willingness to work and live in a camp community and to reside at DPF 4-H Camp, Riverhead, NY (including overnights) the entire time 4-H Camp is in session.
+ Must be able to meet the travel requirements of the position.
+ Ability to work flexible hours which will include on-call hours, evenings and weekends, as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) or Nurse Practitioner.
+ Demonstrated ability and experience working with children and young adults in an outdoor/recreational environment.
+ Demonstrated ability to update and/or monitor health care, maintain records, and implement a health care plan.
+ Current Basic Life Support (BLS)/Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification as accepted by local health department (re-certification can be provided by camp).
Responsibilities/Essential Functions
Administrative Responsibilities- 95%
+ Ensure each staff member and camper has a health history and physical examination form on file.
+ Provide lists to office of missing information from health histories for camp staff to use during check in procedures.
+ Screen arriving campers and staff per New York State Department of Health procedures.
+ Check in camper and staff medication upon arrival as per New York State Department of Health procedures.
+ Conduct inventory of supplies and place orders for supplies when necessary, ensuring timely arrival of supplies.
+ Establish and follow appropriate medical routines, including record keeping in the daily medical log, disposal of medical waste, managing and safeguarding medications, and utilizing approved standing orders.
+ Coordinate coverage of the health center.
+ Post hours for daily medications and health call.
+ Make appointments (when necessary) with medical and/or dental personnel in the community.
+ Check and issue first aid kits, AED’s and Epi Pens to assigned areas.
+ Participate in, and lead specific areas of, universal precautions for infection control.
+ Monitor health of all campers and staff.
+ Complete accident/incident reports when needed.
+ Have communications with parents regarding camper medical needs. Maintain record of all parent communication.
+ Monitor health logs and accident/incident reports to be utilized for risk management assessment.
+ Monitor and evaluate camp procedures, facilities and conditions.
+ Prepare a summary and evaluation of the camp season, including inventories, staff evaluations, camper reports on health problems, and make recommendations for the following season.
+ Suggest modifications that would create more healthful conditions at DPF 4-H Camp.
+ Perform other duties as assigned and/or reassigned as directed/required by the Camp Director.
+ This position may require the transport of program participants and/or program materials and resources.
Professional Improvement - 5%
+ Attend DPF 4-H Camp orientation/training program, and participate in staff meetings and required training events as scheduled.
+ In cooperation with Supervisor and/or Executive Director jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes in programming and association priorities.
+ Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension including but not limited to attendance at staff meetings, timely reporting of expenses, working with other staff, general marketing of Extension programs and other duties as assigned.
Health and Safety-Applied to all duties and functions.
+ Support the Association to maintain a safe working environment.
+ Be familiar and strive to follow any applicable federal, state, local regulations, association health and safety policy/procedure/requirement and standard.
+ Act proactively to prevent accidents/injuries and communicate hazards to supervisors when identified.

POSITION DETAILS:
This is an exempt, full-time position, 100% FTE. The salary will be $10,000 to $13,000 commensurate with experience.
