Cancer Care Coordinator - Radiation Therapy, Per Diem

Central Maine Healthcare is seeking a Cancer Care Coordinator to join our team at the Radiation Therapy office at the cancer care center! This is a per diem position Position Summary: The Cancer Care Coordinator functions as a receptionist, secretary, scheduler and reimbursement specialist and as such, facilitates the care of patients with life threatening illnesses across the continuum. Regulatory Requirements:• High School Graduate or Equivalent• Minimum of two (2) years medical office experience preferred.• Previous experience with health insurance and patient billing preferred.• Completion of medical terminology course required. Duties and Responsibilities:1. Check in patients: + Accurately registers patients + Identifies and bands patients according to CMMC Patient Identification policy. + Validates/verifies demographic information and insurance information. 2. Promptly answers telephone; triaging calls to appropriate person.3. Obtains and collates all patient health information before patients’ scheduled appointment; verifying that all necessary information is available.4. Accurately scans all patient health information into EMR5. Evaluates the necessity of and performs prior authorizations and pre certifications to ensure reimbursement for services.6. Verifies eligibility for patient assistance funding and other indigent programs. Refers patients with resource issues to social worker.7. Collects payments for office visits, provides receipt to patient and in cash drawer.8. Accurately prepares bank deposit daily.9. Coordinates the scheduling multiple patient appointments for the following: + • Medical oncologist/Radiation oncologist + • Interventional radiologist + • Surgeon + • Nuclear medicine/PET/CT scanning + • Second opinion oncologists at tertiary/quaternary care facilities. This includes collating and sending all necessary patient health information in a timely manner. 10. Coordinates the chemo/biotherapy and radiation oncology schedules, by cycle, managing the inevitable delays and revisions caused by patient condition and communicating such to the interdisciplinary team.11. Manages schedule to provide frequent, unanticipated patient visits. Adjusts providers’ schedule to accommodate.12. Demonstrates interpersonal skills necessary to communicate with patients dealing with life threatening illnesses. (Empathy, compassion, patience, humor)13. Schedules urgent diagnostic testing for acutely ill patients on unit, coordinating with other members of the interdisciplinary team.14. Coordinates planned and unplanned admissions to acute care, including providing an updated patient medical record.15. Assists with the transportation of patients to acute care under the direct supervision of a registered nurse.16. Assumes responsibility for maintaining access to unit during Rapid Response/Code situations. Contacts EMS for transport.
