As a Cannery Assistant Manager at our Alaskan processing facilities, you will play a crucial role in overseeing daily operations within our seafood processing plant. Your responsibilities will include managing production lines, ensuring quality standards, maintaining a safe work environment, and optimizing efficiency. You will work closely with the Cannery Manager to develop and implement strategies to improve productivity and reduce costs. Strong leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills are essential for success in this position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The responsibilities of the position include the following:
Active leadership and participation in setting production and quality standards and takes action to ensure standards are met or exceeded. Establish cannery priorities and objectives consistent with Silver Bay Seafoods business and production needs. Helps manage the cannery to assure positive employee relations and meet all safety and environmental standards. Ensure that all applicable company policies and regulatory requirements are adhered to; including but not limited to Safety and Risk Management policies, OSHA and AKOSH regulations, company handbook and policies, all quality and food safety standards (HAACP, GMP, and sanitation regulations) as well as other compliance and regulatory areas. Responsible for the preseason maintenance of cannery equipment. Performs daily and routine maintenance on cannery equipment. Take proactive and preventative measures to avoid production setbacks. Coordinates with Cannery Manager to help oversee the cannery production process. Assist in the development of cannery production schedule and adherence. Assist to ensure that products are produced in a timely manner and are produced following quality. Lead and help manage procedures for all safety reporting to maintain compliance. Ensure that cannery key productivity indicators are measured, and the results communicated through the facility and to Silver Bay Seafoods corporate. Direct the activities of cannery staff to ensure that productivity and cost effectiveness objectives/goals are met or exceeded. Develop an organization that will identify and provide training for plant employees. Responsible for ensuring that direct reports are provided, meaningful opportunities for personnel and professional development and career enhancement. Oversee compliance in relationship to quality and food safety, helping train QA management team and working directly with Corporate Environment partners. Identify training needs and ensure proper training is provided. Involved in both the pre-production (planning) stage as well as the production (control and supervision) stage. A large part of production management involves dealing with people. Other duties to ensure facility and organization is fully supported and successful.Competencies

BS/BA degree preferred. Management, Engineering or Technical degree preferred. 7+ years of experience in seafood or food manufacturing management in positions of progressive responsibility. 3-5 years of seafood industry leadership experience required. Salmon and Herring production experience is required. Owns tools needed to be able to complete required task of the job requirement. Prior production and food safety training and certifications are preferred.Work Environment and Schedule
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and extreme cold. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Position requires onsite presence at our Alaska Processing Facility, and the ability to travel, spending a significant amount of time during the season at our various locations and processing facilities in Alaska.

While performing the essential function and job duties associated with the job, the employee is regularly required to sit, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
