Job Description

The CAPA Engineer, reporting to the CAPA Manager, supports all phases of Fortune Brands’ defined CAPA process, including intake and assessment, product correction and containment activities, root cause investigation, and planning and implementing permanent countermeasures.  

Partnering  with various functions across Fortune Brands [Quality, Manufacturing, Sourcing and Supply Chain, Distribution/Logistics, Engineering, Project Management, Product Compliance, Field Services, Claims, Sales, Category Management], this role is responsible for ensuring Fortune Brands Quality standards are achieved, together with leading the root cause & resolution of Customer Quality issues.

Championing Quality Excellence in every aspect of the procurement / manufacturing / QA processes, the CAPA Engineer will work in close collaboration with teams at both corporate and local manufacturing plants / distribution centers, facilitating the validation/control of business critical corrective and preventive actions, managing component/product inspections, sort projects and rework, planning / implementing / documenting actions to identify reported quality issues and take timely containment and corrective actions for all reported Quality issues.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Work with manufacturing plants / distribution centers / Field Services team - to ensure business critical quality issues are identified and evaluated in a timely manner, and escalated when appropriate into a QN [Quality Notification].As required, plan and coordinate any required activities [product quarantines, quality holds, sorting and/or rework projects, activate the product recall process as needed] to contain all suspect product to insulate the Fortune Brands’ supply chain and customers from further exposure riskApply structured problem-solving tools to identify true root causes.   Coordinate with other functions to plan and implement sustainable long-term countermeasures, to prevent recurrence of the issue.Documents project progress as well as corrective action and preventative action plans to assure effectiveness of the CAPA countermeasures.   Manages CAPA activities to ensure timely completion. Communicates CAPA project summary data to FBIN management.Develops or updates processes, procedures, and reports to support CAPA Team functions.Ensure CAPA processes and procedures are followed, to ensure alignment with Fortune Brands global Quality processes.Interacts with Contact Centers, Category Managers, Engineering, Plant Quality and Manufacturing, Designers, Sourcing, and Business Planning to communicate quality impact and corrective action timing for issues affecting production and order fulfillment and impacts to customer service. Participates in development of Control Plans, , Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA) or other risk management tools, Design for Assembly (DFA) at plant sites or distribution centers when needed to ‘hold the gains’ from completed CAPA countermeasures.Achieve defined metrics for CAPA timeliness and efficacy, in support of FBIN objectives around safety, quality, service and cost.Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

 

Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline is required.Minimum of 3 years of engineering is required.  Experience in assembly or manufacturing is preferred.  Experience with data analysis, root cause analysis, and collaborative structured problem-solving tools and techniques is also preferred.Experience with dimensioning and tolerances as well as measurement and metrology skillsAbility to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast paced, changing environment.Excellent written and verbal communicate skills for interaction with all levels of staff, customers, suppliers, and operations.Must be proficient with Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and Outlook).SAP, Minitab, and QlikView experience is also preferred.Ability and willingness to travel frequently to Fortune Brands’ manufacturing sites, distribution centers; ability to travel to other outside locations at limited times.Demonstrable experience of utilizing Lean, Six Sigma, and Continuous Improvement tools and techniques.
