Primary Function:
Designed specifically for recent college graduates, the TRAIL (Tools Required for Advancement Into Leadership) program is a 18-month rotational leadership-development program that enables recent college graduates to gain practical, on-the-job leadership and management skills. TRAIL Operations Specialists are not interns, they are full-time employees, earning a competitive salary with benefits while being provided hands-on experience and mentorship from the assigned business area. The main objective of our program is to help strengthen the future leadership of the company by building a foundation in process improvement, presentation and leadership skills.
The Capital Markets TRAIL Operations Specialist will get immersed in the following areas:
Trading, Pricing and Margin Management
Securitization and Transaction Management
Business Analytics
The program is slated to begin in January 2025.
Responsibilities:
Trading:
Run daily analysis on risk position to most effectively hedge the pipeline of interest rate lock commitments
Aid in the optimization of hedging strategy through usage of mortgage TBAs, options, and other derivatives
Participate in reconciliation of daily position and P&L attribution reporting
Monitor specified pool trading activity and track all available loan executions. Will work closely with the best execution, pooling, and delivery teams to ensure the monetization of the pipeline is maximized
Coordinate with pricing team on daily pricing for rate sheet, bulk bids, etc
Securitization and Transaction Management:
Understand best execution concepts and strategy to maximize company revenue
Participate in the pooling process, the flow of loans from closing to sale
Securitize loans according to best execution and agency guidelines within specified deadlines
Aid in inventory management by creating and monitoring reporting on inventory turn times and managing any issue preventing sale
Review, analyze, and correct data discrepancies disclosed by edit checks received in the securitization process
Request pool certification and communicate status with trade desk
Pricing and Margin Management:
Observe daily pricing process, learn components of the overall price build and pricing engine loan level price adjustment concepts
Sit with lock desk post pricing desk after concepts are understood to work through ticketing process and jumbo investor commitments
Get introduced to basic SQL and tableau report builds, apply concepts learned with pricing and lock desk to review PnL at the loan level and conduct competitive analysis
Participate in the bulk acquisition process, including mapping bid files, navigating the bulk application, and communicating bids to external partners
Business Analytics:
Participate in all Business Analyst activities, including Requirement Gathering, Documentation, End to End Testing, and Release Communication
Act as Liaison between Business and IT to ensure all requirements are met and all impacted areas are considered
Areas supported will include Capital Markets, Treasury, Accounting.
Other Responsibilities:
Perform any other tasks requested by management including but not limited to: ad hoc reporting, assistance in driving project management, etc.
Work cross functionally with Origination Channels, Treasury, FP&A, and Accounting
Performs business analyses and provides recommendations to leadership for business and process changes.
Receives training and performs duties in several functions to become familiar with line and staff functions, management viewpoints, company policies, and best practices.
Observes experienced workers to acquire knowledge of methods, procedures, and standards required for performance of departmental duties.
Help champion the Process Improvement discipline within the organization and implement the steps and tools necessary to successfully complete projects.
Will be required to attend company sponsored training classes and attain certain certifications.
Performs related duties as assigned by supervisor.
Education and Experience Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree from accredited college or university
Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Financial Management, Economics or a related discipline.
Knowledge, Skill, and Ability Requirements:
Strong analytical, quantitative, relationship development, and communication skills.
Must be competent in Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint as well as have an interest in developing analytical skills with SQL.
Excel in a team-oriented, collaborative environment while contributing to the creation, design, and implementation of value-add business strategies that affect current operating practices and company policy.
Be able to clearly articulate and present ideas and findings to a varied audience, including the operations staff and senior leadership.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong business communication skills with an ability to work well in a collaborative environment.
Strong attention to detail and an ability to multi-task, respond well to pressure and deadlines, and work well individually and in a collaborative environment.
Ability to adapt and willingness to learn.
