Job Title: Cardiac Device Tech II
*Minimum 2 years of experience strongly preferred. **
**Experience in managing and performing core devices, i.e. Pacemakers, ICDs and Implantable Loop Recorders strongly preferred**
**Must be willing to travel from Tampa to Zephyrhills different days of the week**
Position Summary
Works closely with physicians and other staff performing pacemaker, defibrillator and other implanted device checks as well as monitoring remote device checks.
Essential Functions
• Serves as primary resource for clinical support in basic troubleshooting, programming, and patient follow-up for company products.
• Participates in the training and onboarding of new cardiac device specialists.
• Assists with directing daily workflow and participates in quality and safety initiatives.
• Maintains competency in field through continuing education, or other approved resources related to role.
• Educates patients regarding device function and clinic follow up.
• Performs clinical and library research and participates in case reviews and clinical observation.
• Performs remote pacemaker/AICD checks every 1-4 months using approved vendor websites.
• Explains in office testing and phone check procedures to patient with verbal consent of understanding.
• Performs in office pacemaker/AICD checks every 3-6 months using approved vendor programmers: check battery life, lead impedance, view sensitivity, parameter settings, threshold/voltage/pulse wave, device utilization, and rhythm abnormalities.
• Changes or adjusts pacemaker/AICD settings or parameters as needed to enhance device performance.
• Edits and forwards final test results to attending physician for analysis and interpretation.
• Forwards abnormal findings directly to the Physician or nurse per department guidelines.
• Keys information into computer or programmer to maintain patient and office records, and uploads reports into patient chart.
• Works with vendors and Clinical Engineering to schedule equipment downtime for preventive maintenance and/or repairs and reports any equipment issues promptly.
• Utilizes knowledge of cardiac device software, Microsoft Office, and internet applications.
• Exercises professional judgment in performance of services and maintains a demeanor complimentary to quality care.
• Delivers appropriate care while recognizing patient conditions, age specific needs and ensuring successful completion of procedures.
• Performs proper patient identification, acquires patient’s clinical history, and assures that the information is accurately documented.
• Administers medical aid as required for any emergency situation.
• Applies appropriate standard precautions and personal protective equipment to prevent cross-contamination of diseases.
• Adheres to Orlando Health mission statements and commitment to excellence standards.
• Utilizes all Orlando Health computer systems effectively and accurately.
• Ensures safety of all customers.
• Maintains accurate and precise documentation. Accurately record verbal and telephone orders from physicians in the patient record.
• Communicates openly and effectively with all members of the healthcare team.
• Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards.
• Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
Other Related Functions
• Assists in transporting patients.
• Follows established standards of practice for report processing and interpretation.
• Assists in clerical duties, such as, but not limited to, printing reports, scanning documents, and scheduling of patients.
• Maintains cleanliness of work area and equipment.
• Demonstrates required flexibility to work at any Orlando Health facility.
• Assists with other departmental duties and responsibilities as needed.
• Demonstrates required flexibility to work afterhours and call shifts as needed.
Education/Training
Bachelor’s Degree; and Must have one (1) of the following within six (6) months of hire date. Failure to complete one of the following options within six(6) months of hire date will result in the incumbent’s removal from his/her current position with the option to apply to a position in which he/she may qualify. There is no guarantee of job placement as a result of not meeting these requirements. **Three years of direct experience may substitute for Bachelor’s degree and certification** PrepMD certificate Arrhythmia Technologies Institute certificate Equivalent diploma for Cardiac Rhythm Management Completion of International Board of Heart Rhythm Examiners (IBHRE) or- Certified Cardiac Device Specialist (CCDS) – or- Certified Electrophysiology Specialist (CEPS) International Board of Heart Rhythm Examiners (IBHRE) Certified Cardiac Device Specialist (CCDS); or Certified Electrophysiology Specialist (CEPS); or▪ Cardiac Device Remote Monitoring Specialist (CDRMS)
Licensure/Certification
• Maintains current BLS/Healthcare Provider Certification.
