Our Cardiovascular Outpatient Service Line is looking for a part-time Cardiac Device Technician to join our team to support our outpatient clinics.  Our cardiovascular clinics directly support the providers affiliated with BSW The Heart Hospital – Plano*. 

\n

The Cardiac Device Tech performs a variety of functions related to implanted cardiac device management.  Performs in-person ICD, Pacemaker and ILR evaluations for outpatients.   Performs review and management of remote monitoring including scheduled and alterable transmissions.  Must be able to assess the condition and appearance of the implant site and document any abnormalities.  Interrogates, interprets, and re-programs cardiac devices with minimal physician supervision.   Trouble shoots critical device issues and take immediate steps toward resolution.

The successful candidate must be comfortable working in busy cardiovascular outpatient clinics.  Must be comfortable with educating patients.

JOB SUMMARY

\n

The Cardiac Device Tech 1 performs a variety of functions related to implanted cardiac device management, such as ICD, Pacemaker and ILR evaluations for outpatients, inpatient and procedure areas. Performs pacemaker parameter testing and remote monitoring, including the interpretation of data and recognition of potential life threatening cardiac irregularities that require referral to EP or Cardiology Service. This position is also accountable for ensuring that patients and their families are well-educated and are provided the necessary instructions for monitoring and follow up.

\n

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE

\n\nServes as resource to physicians and other practice employees about device patients and services.\nAssesses the condition and appearance of the implant site and documents any abnormality.\nInterrogates, interprets, and re-programs cardiac devices with minimal physician supervision.\nEnsures charges are accurately captured for device interrogation.\nTrouble shoots critical device issues and take immediate steps toward resolution. Partners with physicians about device status and accurately document device testing in EMR for review.\nEducates patients on all aspects of their device including remote monitoring and follow-up protocol.\nProvides mentorship and training to junior staff in proper cardiac device interrogation policies and procedures as well as arrhythmia recognition to ensure their use of safe testing methods.\nPromotes a healthy clinical environment and good working relationships. Participates in positive, proactive inter- and intra-departmental communication.\nKeeps equipment in good working condition and tell appropriate team members of problem areas or safety issues.\nEnsures programming rooms are adequately stocked with necessary supplies.\n\n

KEY SUCCESS FACTORS

\n\nAbility to work both by yourself and as part of a team to ensure efficient and accurate interpretations.\nA certificate of completion from an approved device technical school (Like Arrhythmia Technical Institute - ATI) that provides a formal curriculum of education and training in cardiac pacing, defibrillation, cardiac resynchronization therapy and electrophysiology is preferred.\nCompletion of rhythm interpretation and management education program (internal or external accepted).\nKnowledge of cardiac arrhythmias is preferred.\nProficiency in ECG interpretation is preferred.\nBasic computer skills and electronic management of medical records.\nAbility to use philosophy and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.\nPreferred to obtain IBHRE certification within 2 years of experience.\nCompletion of rhythm interpretation and management education program (internal or external accepted).\nCompletion of internal Cardiac Device knowledge check off required for those in the Cardiac Device Trainee position.\nMust be able to read, write, speak and comprehend the English language. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.\n\n

QUALIFICATIONS

\n\n\n\t EDUCATION - H.S. Diploma/GED Equivalent\n\tEXPERIENCE - 1 Year of Experience\n\tCERTIFICATION/LICENSE/REGISTRATION -Basic Life Support (BLS): BLS within 30 days of hire or transfer.
