Cardiac Sonographer Clinical Leader - Cardiovascular Diagnostics - Full Time - Days

Position Purpose:

Performs all duties of a Cardiovascular Sonographer. This individual is primarily responsible for the performance of adult and pediatric echocardiograms (TTE), transesophageal echoes (TEE), stress echo and other noninvasive cardiovascular testing such as occasional EKG and Holter monitors.

What you will Do:

Colleague will be responsible for using critical thinking to thoroughly assess and quantify cardiac pathology as well as independently decide when contrast is needed.

Assigns patient care to staff based on the degree of supervision required and complexity and dynamics of the patient condition. Reviews and adjusts unit staffing for his/her shift based on patient census and acuity utilizing the master staffing plan.  Assesses staffing needs for the upcoming shift adjusts if necessary. 

Supervises cardiovascular testing of the medical center patients and ensures that desired levels of performance are achieved.   

Identifies educational needs related to cardiovascular patients, staff, and self.  Facilitates clinical development of staff.  Serves as a mentor and resource person for staff.

Communicates in a collaborative manner with echo sonographers, nursing personnel, physicians, and other departments utilizing appropriate channels of communication. Participates with the multidisciplinary healthcare team to facilitate quality patient care.

Communicates and collaborates closely with the cardiologists.

Hours/Schedule:

Full Time, Day Shift. Working (8) hour shifts with varying start times between 7:00am - 8:30am. Holiday and Call Rotation of (1) week, every (7) weeks.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education [formal]:

Graduate of an accredited cardiovascular sonography program.

Registered Diagnostic Cardiovascular Sonographer with active registration thru American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS).

Must have a bachelor's degree in an approved course of study or be willing to complete a bachelor's degree within five years.

OR

In the event of colleague being a new graduate, colleague must be registered within 12 months of graduation per Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC) guidelines.

Credentialing through Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) is acceptable if applicant can demonstrate thorough knowledge and competence of cardiac pathology.

At least two years of full-time employment in adult cardiovascular sonography preferred.

Must be able to work comfortably with patients of all ages.

A strong sense of responsibility and the ability to make sound judgments independently.

Neat, well-groomed appearance.

Effective written and verbal communication skills.

Effective time management skills.

Effective delegation skills.

Acts as a role model in delivery of quality cost-effective care.

Able to work flexible hours.

Must provide proof of Basic Life Support (BLS Provider-American Heart Association or Professional Rescuer-American Red Cross) prior to employment or within 30 days of hire and maintains current status.

Must provide proof of Mandatory Reporting for Child and Dependent Adult Abuse training prior to employment or within 6 months of hire and maintain current status per State of Iowa guidelines

Required to operate Mercy vehicle, will need to have proof of and maintain valid driver's license on file with Human Resources.
