Summary:

The Cardiology registered nurse is responsible for assisting in coordination of care for Riverside's Cardiology patients. Duties include caring for structural heart patients and facilitating timely cardiac testing for patients with cardiac symptoms.

Experience/Requirements:

BSN preferred.

Extensive knowledge base in: cardiac anatomy and physiology, cardiovascular physical assessments, arrhythmia and 12 lead assessment, emergency cardiac care, and pathophysiology of coronary artery disease

Two years’ experience in coronary care unit preferred

Stress test familiarity preferred

License or Certification Requirements:

Current IL RN license

Current CPR certification

ACLS certification within 6 months of hire into the department

 

Responsibilities:

Analyzes the assessment data to determine the patient's nursing diagnoses or patient problems.Coordinates care delivery through the utilization of department, organization, and community models and resources; critical thinking; interdisciplinary teamwork; patient advocacy; and the unique nurse-patient connection, and identifies and uses available resources to define and implement the plan of care.Detects and collects comprehensive data and identifies patterns pertinent to the patient's health and unique situation.Develops a plan that prescribes strategies and alternatives to attain expected outcomes, based on the patient's individualized situation and anticipated needs.Employs strategies, including translation, to promote healthy behaviors for patients and families.Enhances the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice through communication, documentation, initiation of change, creativity, innovation, participation in quality improvement (QI), evidence-based practice (EBP), and research processes.Evaluate one's nursing practice concerning the Illinois Nurse Practice Act and professional practice standards and guidelines.Evaluates progress toward effective attainment of patient, family, and community goals.Mentors others in all aspects of nursing practice.Coordinate Echo Conference and assist with submitting and maintaining required documentation for CME status.Coordinate the flow of patients entered into the Structural Heart Program by facilitating required physician office visits, testing, documentation, and patient education. Coordinate with the various team members from pre-auth, scheduling, quality, and office to meet all required documentation requirements. Follow the patients across the spectrum of care as outlined by the watchman tool kit. Track all patients with heart disease and ensure repeat echocardiograms are being performed and patients as beingseen by providers for monitoring the progression of their valvular heart disease and assisting with a heart team approach for treatment recommendations.Assists with community events as needed. Ensure all supplies are available as well as all stations have the correct number of volunteers. Communicate with volunteers before the event and record all event details and outcomes. Ensure all equipment is in working order for the eventsLead the CPR in schools’ program. Lead coordinate and document all events. Maintain all equipment related to the eventFacilitate the care of structural heart patients at all HVI clinic locations. Tasks include: prep charts, ensuring the structural heart clinic has all the supplies and equipment to provide care from our service line, supports cardio-diagnostic service patients as needed.Provides backup coverage to HVI Clinic and Cardiac Diagnostic Nurses as needed.Gathers clinical cardiology-related information and enters orders across the inpatient and outpatient spectrum to support physicians as requested.


Work Location: Hybrid (Remote & In-Person flexibility based upon need)

Hours: 40 Hours Max/Week, Monday through Friday, weekend hours should be minimal and as needed for urgent patient issues.

· Sensory requirements (speech, vision, smell, hearing, touch):
Speech: Required to communicate with surgeons, anesthesia personnel, patients and co-workers.
Vision: Required to assist surgeons with scrubbing and circulating. Many OR procedures require keen visual observation because of the size of suture material used/instrumentation used. It is necessary to perform patient assessment, medical administrations, observe video monitors, etc.
Smell: Helpful to note presence of incontinence, vomitus, blood; electrical/fire safety.
Hearing: Necessary to hear patient's concerns, to hear surgeons during procedures, to hear intercom for help in a room, hear alarms, i.e., fire, code 99, etc.
Touch: Necessary to comfort patients, hand instruments during procedures necessary to operate controls on equipment.

Lifting equipment - carry 25'-150' waist high (IV bags, patient trays). Carry charts 25'-150' waist high. Filled laundry bags are filled half full so as not to weigh over 35 lbs. Carry fire extinguishers up or down 3-4 flights of stairs and several yards in an emergency.
