Responsibilities

The Cardiology Technician is responsible for performing all cardiac diagnostic procedures, primarily: EKG and EKG MUSE Medical entry and records. Cardiology technicians may also be responsible for EEG, treadmill exercise tests, Holter monitoring and scanning, pacemaker analysis and telephonic arrhythmia monitoring.

Performs EKG and is responsible for EKG Muse entry and medical record retrieval to assure all EKG's are in the Muse system in a timely mannerPerforms EKG and is responsible for EKG Muse entry and medical record retrieval to assure all EKG's are in the Muse system in a timely mannerRecognizes abnormal EKG readings notifying appropriate person (RN, MD) if abnormal EKG is potentially life threateningChecks emergency resuscitation/crash cart equipment daily and assures equipment is available during proceduresStocks supplies for all testing proceduresScans Holter recordings to detect arrhythmias and processes report for physician reviewPerforms EEGs per protocol for both inpatients and outpatients; adult and pediatricAdjusts machine settings to obtain acceptable recording dataDetermines proper filter settings, paper speed, and reference electrodesRecognizes basic EEG patternsSelects appropriate groups of electrodes to records and measure specific types of cerebral activityMaintains proper equipment; notifying bio-medical technician for repairs as appropriate
Qualifications

Required:

Current BLS Healthcare ProviderAn EKG course completion within 30 days of hire is requiredKnowledge of medical terminology

Preferred:

Preferred graduate of a program for cardiovascular technology or certification from the National Board for Cardiovascular TechnologyCompletion of basic arrhythmia class preferredEEG experience preferredOne year experience performing EKG's and treadmill exercise testing in an acute care hospital preferred
