Cardiovascular Radiology Technologist

 

The Technologist performs diagnostic testing and assists with interventional procedures, according to established departmental procedures, ensuring the delivery of quality patient care. Diagnostic testing includes X-ray, and interventional procedures. This position supports diagnostic and interventional procedures in Cardiac Catheterization and Electrophysiology Labs. This position may support coronary and peripheral interventions, closure device implants, electrophysiology studies, ablations and device implants.

The Technologist performs diagnostic testing as directed by the physician at a competent technical level not requiring constant supervision. This position operates diagnostic equipment, including peripheral equipment, in a safe and efficient manner to obtain optimal test results. The Technologist manages the patient during the diagnostic procedure to meet quality patient care standards. This position ensures supplies are maintained and reports problems with equipment to the appropriate staff member. This position supports the Interventionalist by scrubbing in during the procedure, as well as computerized documentation of the events of the procedure. On Call is a requirement of this position.

This position actively participates in and supports preceptoring of new employees or clinical education activities where applicable. This position supports organizational goals by providing quality customer service, participating in performance improvement efforts and demonstrating a commitment to teamwork and cooperation.



QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:

Graduate of an accredited radiological technologist school required

 

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION:

BLS for Healthcare Providers required; ACLS is required within 12 months from date of hire or transfer Licensed by the State of New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) Registry or Registry-Eligible American Registry of Radiology Technologist (ARRT) If registry-eligible at time of hire registration is required within one year


EXPERIENCE:

1-2 years interventional cardiology experience required Peripheral experience preferred Candidates must possess ability to multitask, with attention to fine detail in a fast-paced environment Proficiency in Clinical Applications preferred at time of hire; incumbents within position will be trained appropriately and then skill will be required for this position within 90 days from date of hire State License expires end of each year and must be renewed annually to work ARRT expires on incumbent’s date of birth, and must be renewed to work

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Potential for exposure to the hazards and risk of the hospital environment, blood borne pathogens, including exposure to infectious disease, hazardous substances, including radiation exposure and potential injury Considerable reaching, stooping, kneeling and crouching Extensive standing (wearing lead) and walking, including stairs Lifting approximately 25-50 pounds frequently Lifting approximately 50 to 100 pounds with assistance occasionally Pushing and pulling of heavy equipment Transporting patients on stretchers unassisted Manual dexterity to hand off instruments Maneuver in small work areas congested with cords, foot pedals and various equipment consoles Move patients from beds/stretchers to procedure tables and from procedure tables to stretchers or beds

This position reports to Nursing Leadership.
