Position Summary:

Operates ultrasound equipment and performs a variety of cardiovascular procedures to produce images for patient diagnosis.

Position Key Accountabilities:

Performs diagnostic testing and care of patients appropriate to age. Assist the physician to diagnose heart defects or the exact cause of impaired blood circulation. Explain the procedure to the patients. Assists in the operation of ultrasound equipment and records results. Adjusts parameters on equipment and reviews calibrations to assure that scans are reproducible under similar conditions. Performs basic maintenance on equipment to assure proper working conditions. Attends continuing education seminars to stay abreast of technological advances. Demonstrates the use of ultrasound equipment and techniques to assist with the education of students, nurses, residents, patients, and physicians. Must be able to respond to emergency situations. Other duties as assigned.

Certification/Skills:

Certified as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) by the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) or Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) by the ARDMS or Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS) by the CCI.  May be required to hold more than one of the certifications listed above based upon responsibilities.

Minimum Education:

Graduate of an AMA-approved school of Radiologic Technology or its equivalent.
Associate degree preferred. 

Minimum Experience:

Two year experience in diagnostic cardiovascular ultrasound.

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds frequently and/or up to 20 pounds constantly to move objects.

Residency Requirement:

Employees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas.
