Cardiovascular Tech 2 -- Cardiac Cath Lab -- Heart & Vascular Center

Job Summary

Operate the computerized hemodynamics system, plot pressure waves, and compute volume studies. Perform various direct patient care activities and procedures under direction of RN. Perform cardiac EKG interpretation documentation and equipment maintenance. Maintain department database.

 

Responsibilities

• Accurately monitor, analyze, and interpret rhythm/arrhythmias. Communicate patient's hemodynamic status throughout procedures. Recognize changes and report to physician and team. • Enter patient data into computerized data-base registry system. Generate hemodynamics reports and maintain records on procedures. • Perform daily hemodynamics system checks, trouble shoots and reports system problems. • Effectively prepare instruments and accessories using aseptic technique. • Obtain products used for procedures. Assure that CVT stock is maintained at appropriate levels. Assist with restocking of rooms and inventory management. • Legibly and accurately transcribe orders utilizing knowledge of policy and procedures and legal documentation on patient record. • Maintain confidentiality of patient, staff, unit, and institution information. • Identify, resolve, or report real or potential customer concerns. • Precept new staff. Act as a resource to new interns, residents, RNs, and other health team members on procedures related to computerized ordering of clinical services and maintenance of medical records. Provide educational offerings to staff. • Deliver quality care to patients as delegated by the Registered Nurse and according to hospital policy and procedure. • Maintain a neat, clean, safe, and cost effective patient and unit environment. • Participate in a PI or QI project annually. • Meet department standards on database.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Patient Group Knowledge (Only applies to positions with direct patient contact) The employee must possess/obtain (by the end of the orientation period) and demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide developmentally appropriate assessment, treatment or care as defined by the department’s identified patient ages. Specifically the employee must be able to demonstrate competency in: 1) ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of patient needs; 2) knowledge of growth and development; and 3) understanding of the range of treatment needed by the patients. Competency Statement Must demonstrate competency through an initial orientation and ongoing competency validation to independently perform tasks and additional duties as specified in the job description and the unit/department specific competency checklist. Perform related duties as assigned.

 

Education 

• High School Diploma or GED (Required) Experience: 2 years related experience Comment: External hires must pass a 10 strip EKG interpretation test. Internal applicants without the EKG interpretation skill set will be required to successfully pass the EKG interpretation competency and exam within five months of transfer.

 

Credentials 

• Basic Life Support (Required) Within 30 days of hireWithin 30 days of hire

• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (Required) Within 1 year of hireWithin 1 year of hire
