Purpose

Counselors in Academic Residence Program (CARE), is a unique program of the Counseling and Mental Health Center that embeds licensed mental health providers within all colleges and schools to provide mental health services for undergraduate and graduate/professional students. This position may provide mental health services on location in a specific college/school at the University of Texas at Austin.

CARE Coordinators provide the following:

Short-term individual counseling, case management and workshops for students.

Consultation for staff and faculty regarding specific students of concern.

Crisis response to student experiencing mental health crisis.

Mental health trainings relevant to their CSU.

Participation academic staff meetings and wellness programming.

Post-traumatic event consultation for faculty and staff and support for student groups, classes, and individuals.

Responsibilities

The CARE Coordinator, Psychologist is a license psychologist position. They will be involved in program development and coordination of mental health care at The University of Texas at Austin, with emphasis on supporting the needs of students enrolled at the UT Austin School of Law.

Supporting School of Law students at UT Austin by conducting outreach activities, presentations to campus partners, such as faculty, staff, and students, and development of training materials used within the center geared toward School of Law students.

Providing short-term individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, and prevention and outreach services to international undergraduate and graduate students: conducting initial assessments of students' presenting concerns; conducting short-term counseling with students referred for service; maintaining timely, accurate, and complete documentation of all service contacts as required by center policies and procedures; developing and implementing a good blend of programmatic interventions which address the psycho-social and mental health needs of international students; initiating advertising/recruitment and screening for group counseling; developing and facilitating group counseling.

Providing clinical training and supervision to social work and psychology interns, as well as pre­doctoral psychology practicum students with an emphasis on supporting School of Law students: providing individual supervision of practicum students; providing individual supervision of group co-leaders; offering preceptorships and apprenticeships for interns; participating in training activities during the orientation period.

Providing clinical consultation to others on an as-needed basis as it relates to School of Law students; working collaboratively with other mental health professionals on CMHC's multidisciplinary staff and other university departments and organizations; developing linkages with key contacts of School of Law students for the purpose of developing and implementing programmatic interventions which generate substantial participation by students.

Reviewing client record to determine the progress, effectiveness, and appropriateness of treatment services offered, maintaining current, accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with state and federal law, professional ethics, and CMHC policies.

Coordinating referrals between CMHC and university or community service providers.

Other required activities: attending and participate in departmental and division meetings and staff development programs as assigned; engaging in problem solving and seeking better ways to impact the mental health needs of students; complying with all CMHC and UT policies, procedures, and guidelines; may be assigned other relevant duties as applicable.

License Requirement

Psychology - Licensed to practice independently as a Psychologist in Texas

Educational Requirements

Psychology:

Doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology or other degree acceptable to the Texas Board of Examiners of Psychology. Licensed as a Psychologist or the equivalent from another state; must be able to obtain licensure in Texas within one year if licensed in another state.

One year, full-time equivalent, post-doctoral clinical experience in college or university counseling center or other relevant clinical setting.

Required Qualifications

2 years of experience as a licensed counselor

Experience working in a University Counseling Center

Experience working with law students

Experience in a high demand outpatient or inpatient mental health setting

Salary Range

Licensed Psychologist - $76,000 + depending on qualifications
