ABOUT US New York Edge is a non-profit organization and one of the largest providers of school-based afterschool programs in New York City and the metropolitan region serving over 25,000 elementary, middle, and high school students annually. The mission of New York Edge is to help bridge the opportunity gap among students in underinvested communities by providing programs designed to improve academic performance, health and wellness, self-confidence, and leadership skills for success in life. Role Summary The Career Pathways Coordinator will spearhead New York Edge’s mission to connect high school students with diverse career opportunities, including pathways with or without a college degree. This role prepares students for success by creating access to apprenticeships, internships, certifications, and high-paying career tracks. The Career Pathways Coordinator will collaborate with industry partners, guide students in exploring career options, and manage programs that build skills for both traditional and non-traditional workforce pathways. The ideal candidate will have a passion for youth development, excellent networking skills, and a strong understanding of the job market and employer needs. Program Overview Supported by funding from the NYC Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD), the Learn & Earn Program offers high school juniors and seniors training in work readiness skills, college access support, and summer internship/employment opportunities. This program aims to equip students with the necessary experience and skills for a successful transition to adulthood. Key Responsibilities Program Development and Management: Develop and implement a career pathways program that connects students with opportunities for apprenticeships, internships, and certifications. Design and manage career readiness initiatives, including exploring opportunities that require advanced degrees, trade skills, or certifications. Lead efforts to ensure students gain access to both degree-based and non-degree-based high-paying career tracks. Partnership Recruitment and Engagement: Establish and sustain partnerships with businesses, industry leaders, trade organizations, unions, and postsecondary institutions to provide students with diverse career opportunities. Negotiate and manage partnerships to include internships, apprenticeships, mentorships, and certifications in fields with and without college degree requirements. Student Support and Placement: Guide students in exploring career options and help them navigate pathways with or without a college degree. Match students with appropriate career opportunities based on their skills, interests, and long-term goals. Monitor placements to ensure a positive experience for both students and employers. Career Readiness and Exploration: Organize career workshops, fairs, and panel discussions to inform students about job trends and career growth opportunities. Provide training and resources for resume building, interviewing skills, professional networking, and workplace readiness. Highlight and educate students about non-degree career pathways such as trades, entrepreneurship, and certifications. Certification and Training Program Management: Oversee the administration of certification programs, ensuring they align with high-demand industries and equip students with marketable skills. Identify and introduce certification opportunities in fields such as technology, healthcare, and skilled trades. College and Career Pipeline Development: Create and sustain clear pathways for students interested in postsecondary education, including trade schools, two-year colleges, and universities. Build partnerships with colleges, trade schools, and certification programs to expand opportunities for students. Provide information on scholarships, dual-enrollment programs, and career pipelines. Program Evaluation and Reporting: Collect and analyze data to evaluate program impact and effectiveness, focusing on outcomes such as placement rates, certification completions, and participant satisfaction. Prepare reports for stakeholders to highlight achievements and areas for growth. Candidate Requirements Required - Educational Qualifications: + Bachelor’s degree in education, social work, human resources, or a related field. Experience and Skills: + At least 3 years of successful and relevant experience connecting youth to workplace experiences, employer engagement, and/or college and counseling. + Experience providing pre-collegiate and career support to high school-aged populations. + Strong understanding of higher education and career success. + Exceptional relationship-building and communication skills. + Experience working with student populations similar to those served by New York Edge. + An unwavering belief that all students can be successful.
